Club ‘anthem’! 20:17 - Jan 12 with 3495 views | brazil1981 | Expect this has been discussed before but think it’s a shame we don’t really have a Club anthem like a lot of other clubs have (don’t really think ‘Singing the Blues’ cuts the mustard)! Was just looking at a Facebook link this evening and some great ones around at clubs like Forest, Sheff Utd, West Ham etc., even up the road there’s that awful ’On the Ball City’! Guess there has to a trigger or a specific link that causes fans to adopt a song that really sticks! Personally always thought ‘Country Roads’ would be good….catchy chorus and don’t know of any other clubs that use it!

Club ‘anthem’! on 20:42 - Jan 12 with 2773 views | MattinLondon | Personally I think that club anthems are pointless. ‘You’ll never Walk alone’ possibly the most well known anthem, but even that when sung, only the chorus gets sung. I know it’s my own ignorance but I’m struggling to think what the anthems of Forest snd Shef U are.

Think the Forest one is something about mist rolling in from the Trent , sang along to the tune of Mull of Kintyre [Post edited 12 Jan 2022 20:45]

Chip butty song for the blades. It’s excellent. Still think best is Leeds Marching on Together

Well I think someone had the right suggestion of making it the end of match song if we win. I think it would really grow from there.

The wheel falling off would have made a very apt anthem for us for the last decade!

Especially the B-side. (Story of the Blues Part 2) I think the oddest one is Coventry singing the Eton Boating Song.

I know it’s heresy, I’ll have to punish myself and everything, the lyrics are terrible, but I think ‘On the ball City’ is pretty good, and quite historic (Ullaa will be pleased with this post)

Charlton sing it, about mist rolling in off The Thames, and at least it makes sense for them as they were homeless as a club for years. Annoys me when Forest sing it, as they have to make "City Ground" fill four syllables so they stretch the word City. And they have never been under threat of leaving their stadium like Charlton were. Unless I missed it.

It’s unique, I’ll give them that. Kick it in and have a little scrimmage not exactly rock n roll though.

It is historic that is true. And we all know how much they love football history!

Was going to suggest that we invite Ed to write one for us, would that be a first in terms of an "anthem" commissioned by a football club from a living singer-songwriter? Think 'Country Roads' is living up too much to our rural hick & 'Tractor Boys' image too much? Personally, I like 'Song Sung Blue' (albeit I know many aren't exactly ND fans, but the lyrics are a good fit!) "Song sung blue Everybody knows one Song sung blue Every garden grows one Me and you are subject to the blues now and then But when you take the blues and make a song You sing them out again Sing them out again Song sung blue Weeping like a willow Song sung blue Sleeping on my pillow Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice And before you know, it get to feeling good You simply got no choice Me and you are subject to the blues now and then But when you take the blues and make a song You sing them out again Song sung blue Weeping like a willow Song sung blue Sleeping on my pillow Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice And before you know, it started feeling good You simply got no choice Song sung blue Song sung blue Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice" Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Neil Diamond Song Sung Blue lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group

The OTBC lyrics are slightly archaic - so much so that even the 'fiddlers themselves don't know the words to their own song: kick off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage, keep it low, send it rush - in some sort if order I cannot now remember. They changed send it rush to splendid rush; stuck "it" in several places . You can see the whole poem on Wikipedia and its provenance In the 40s and 50's Town used to sing Keep Right On to the End of The Road - but Birmingham City have acquired that. We should ask Ed Sheeran to write us an anthem!

Club ‘anthem’! on 08:38 - Jan 13 with 1987 views | cinnamonITFC | I actually really like Edward Ebenezer Jeremiah Brown. It’s quirky, unique, not just a rehash of a pop song. And good shouty bits like ‘Where was the goalie…’ Just needs Ed to cover it for it to become more well known! Doubt Ed would write his own sadly - too risky for him!
