Same!

It would seem that starting with a word that contains the most vowels plus common consonants would be the best way to start.

I assume you start with a word that has the letters SB in it? Does BUSBY count as a word?! There must be others...

I hadn't been doing - but I have the last couple of days... as others have said, you can rule in / out a number of vowels in one go which narrows the options quite quickly, so you're best to start with a word with a number of vowels in.

Yes, there should be an optimal word to start with, something like Great, or meats or meaty.

I didn't think of that - perhaps I should try it!

Not sure if we should post our starting words? Might spoil it for some if they narrow it down more efficiently?

No, I try to go for a different word each time, but it will always be one that contains at least two vowels and maybe an S and a T, so there are limited options.

I used STARE, on the basis that they are (possibly?) the most frequently used letters, but I can see how getting all the viwuls sorted early could help.

I used to play a lot of Scrabble until I cracked that addiction. Hopefully this new one won't take up too much of my time!

Well if we are posting them, I used IRATE.

I start with IRATE too and if it only returns 1 match (yellow or green) follow it up with SOUND - then on third guess start using logic to get word - rarely need more than 4 goes - frequently get it in three
