It's not just the BBC that's under threat, it's also Channel 4 in the sights of the Tories in the culture war with threats to privatise the channel which has led Sir David Attenborough to describe it as 'a shortsighted political and economic attack .'
We should be very concerned about all this.
Channel 4 news is the best bar none.

If they make the BBC an optional streaming service then fine by me. And young people don’t watch it anyway & think it’s insane that they are forced to pay for it.
It was Denis Nielsen said that first, wasn't it?
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

yep, certainly no U 18s watching Strictly Come Dancing or MOTD
and as to Radio 1, extra, the Big Weeend, Glastonbury coverage etc that is certainly confined to the over 50s..... who pay the licence

Ah but how many listen to it?
BBC Radio 1 has 8.25m listeners and the Radio 1 Breakfast Show has 4.28m listeners. The station is now behind Heart Network (see below) but is still No.1 for 15-29s.
“I’m very proud that Radio 1 remains the No.1 station across the UK for young people with nine million weekly listeners [aged 10+], and an increased audience of over 19 million across YouTube, iPlayer and social media,” said head of station Aled Haydn Jones. “Despite all the disruption to our young audience’s routines over the past 18 months, Greg James remains the No.1 Breakfast Show with 4.72 million.”
People also forget the Proms, free to air every night in the season, plus the Beeb's huge support & subsidies for music, musicians, orchestras, choirs, composers, music development & education throughout the UK - https://www.bbc.co.uk/orchestras
Not to mention relaying most of the big festivals live + recorded - Glasto (several stages), Reading, Leeds etc.
Oh, and talking of education - BBC Schools, co-productions with the OU for some of the best science documentaries ever made.
Plus can hardly currently forget TMS for ball-by-ball coverage of Tests & other internationals (come on, we can't blame 'em for the results!).
Just out of interest does anyone know how much BBC local radio pays for broadcast rights to town games as presumably the same thing happens all over the country?

Starting remind me of that advert ‘What has the BBC ever done for us’ a la Life of Brian ‘What have the Romans done for us’ scene.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
This is not the case at all. Whatever your political view, the BBC MUST remain neutral. They have not been. It’s been an onslaught on the Tories. Something the BBC shouldn’t be doing. Against any political party. The quality of BBC output should also be questioned.

A report from 2019? Got anything more recent Chico?
Oh yes, last year's report where the only age based detail (other than, of course, in the Learning section) appears to be:
"The BBC continues its efforts to reach young audiences
We have said in previous Annual Reports and in our News Review that the BBC has an opportunity to better serve all audiences with its online news, in particular young people. This year the average weekly reach of the BBC News website/app among 16-34s has increased compared to last year (36% vs 31%) The BBC also provides other news output tailored for young people. For example, Newsbeat, on BBC Radio 1, provides targeted news content for young people every weekday, twice a day. In addition, we note the BBC’s plan to have nightly news bulletins, tailored to the interests of young people and presented by young people on the broadcast BBC Three channel which we have agreed it can relaunch. Although the pandemic has delayed some of the BBC’s plans, it has been making use of its Next Generation Committee to help feed into news stories and make them more appealing to younger audiences"

The fact that the Tories have fcked up so often is not the BBC's fault.
In fact, their real fault is in being too impartial, so much so that they gave equal airtime to global warming protestors and deniers, for example.
This is a clear culture war move. If anyone thinks that ideology simply exists on the left of politics these days, this is (another) prime example of why that is absolute horsesh1t. It isn't 'common sense', it's an attack on the general public and their right to an unbiased media which is funded by them. The Tories want to gerrymander the whole country legally, socially and culturally to have the odds in their favour, and defunding the BBC was always the obvious next step.
Well done for anyone who voted for this - you're a cnt.

No, that’s not how news works.
How else would you report the current situation? Have someone on to pretend it wasn’t a party?
Oh, they have…
An example of the nonsense the BBC has to do
