Our media is really really weird/dangerous 16:57 - Jan 16 with 705 viewsDarth_Koont

Journalists like Peter Oborne and others (mostly independent or from small outlets) have been documenting Johnson’s lies for years:
https://boris-johnson-lies.com/ (Only got up to June last year dealing with the backlog of lies).

However, the rest of our media has largely been ignoring this.

Then one day, almost collectively, they decide that this one set of lies about having parties/“work events” really is enough. But this is nothing in the list of lies and falsehoods that have led to disastrous and damaging policies like Brexit, austerity and Covid responses.

It’s hard to escape the conclusion that this is less about Johnson’s integrity and behaviour threatening the country’s interests. But more that now it’s threatening their interests.

Let alone that the party stuff was or should have been on their radar from the start. There were barely any attempts by staffers to cover this up because they didn’t think they had to.

With press like ours, Johnson isn’t a self-fulfilling prophecy he’s the end goal. And you see their danger as by pivoting they’ve pretty much reversed the polling lead in just a couple of weeks. That’s far too much power for a media that has its own interests at heart.

Yeah, but if you question him or anyone too much, then they won't give you access, innit.

That's how you end up with client journalists like Kuennsberg and zero accountability from what is supposed to fulfill the crucial role of the fourth estate.

Yep. That’s why I don’t exclude the BBC from this. Most of their “heavy-hitters” like Kuenssberg, Marr, Neil and Robinson have been more than useful in covering for the slide rightwards and downwards.

And contrast the current media self-righteousness and piety with the furious condemnation when Maitlis called out Cummings for a similar breach of public trust that Number 10 succeeded in brazening out as a result.

Such a useless, unprincipled and untrustworthy media environment seems to be the underlying failure in our democracy.

Would that be Nick Robinson, former President of the Oxford University Conservative Association, former Chairman of the National Young Conservatives, and founder member of Macclesfield Young Conservatives?

Johnson is and always has been the ‘useful idiot’ used as a front for the right wing nut jobs in the Tory party and their media cabal. Their problem is that he is such an idiot his incompetent leadership has resulted in the apparatus of government falling apart and they risk losing control of it. They now need him gone to try and salvage the situation.

the b;oared buffoon knows well to stay away from interviews, however friendly

The leson that should be taken from this is how much covering up/ignoring has been going on previously.

The Daily Mail, in all it’s self righteous indignation, treated it's sheep like readers to a long article (last week) listing many of fatsos lies, deceit and times of incompetence. Something they had only learned about the day before, we are to presume.

Where amny of that stuff at the last election. Instead we had lurid stories of Corby being an IRA bomb maker, a Czech spy and a member of the PLO. None of which they had evidence of, but when has that ever mattered.

There are enough righty looms to believe the stuff they spout so it is not necessarily where the fault lies. Remove them, and they'll be another one along in a minute.

The problem lies with the ownership of the papers. The Rothermere's, Barclay Bros, Murdoch. With the latter two non English residents and the former having 'non dom' status. Whose interests do you think they are representing ?

And the gormless, who spout the shyte they read. It is a moot point as to whether these papers form opinions or reaffirm opinions already held. I suspect it is a bit of bother.

So to paraphrase John Donne

" send not to know
For whom the press rolls,
It rolls not for thee."
