Middlesex isn’t a county unless you are listing historic counties, in which case East Sussex is not a county.

“In which case”. It’s not an historic county.

In fact Middlesex and Greater London overlap.

Tyrone Mings is actually Bath and North Somerset.

And you can put Lee Martin as Somerset.

Pronouns: He/Him

Also makes Yorkshire tricky, given how the internal boundaries were shifted around.

Certainly.

We need to use either historic counties, or ceremonial counties, or allow people to use either.

We can't use local authority administration areas, because there are so many areas with unitary authorities, so no county council at all. Just to take the first one on the OP's list, Bedfordshire is no longer a county council area. There's Bedford borough, Luton and Central Beds.

What we certainly don't need is people arguing about whether X is a county or not, when they're talking at cross purposes because there are different ways of categorising counties.

Ha yes. I’m just being playfully pedantic. To be fair the counties where Goddard and Norwood were born are correct for the day they were born but we should have Sussex on the list as well.

"playfully pedantic"? Surely an oxymoron given there's nothing more important on a social media outlet than the vital business of pedantry.

Whilst wondering which footballers had come from Bath and North East Somerset, I stumbled across this poor, unfortunate soul:

"Ernest Joseph Hyman (1904 — 7 January 1927) was a footballer for Yeovil Town. He died on 7 January 1927 from injuries sustained during a game for the club against Taunton Town on Boxing Day 1926. He is buried in the graveyard of St Nicholas church, Radstock"

The game's gone soft.

It was a bit tongue in cheek putting in Paul Goddard of Middlesex, something of an anomaly on the Wikipedia page stating his place of birth as Harlington, Middlesex (although if you click through it says Harlington is part of Greater London.)

Could always expand Greater London so that we have more player as represented by each Lunnun borough, and do likewise for Glasgow so that Govan's Alan Brazil gets into the list...and Wark can take care of the rest of the city.

Have updated the list for all suggestions and corrections so far, plus I have added Luke Varney for Leicestershire and Frazer Richardson for South Yorkshire.

Now that, following Phil's suggestion of McKenna as representative for Fermanagh, I have included managers I could replace Scott Fraser with John Duncan...

I have replaced Derek Jefferson with Jackie Milburn in that category, Darren Ambrose has had to give way to Sir Alf (I always forget he was a Dagenham lad) and Gatesy, seems a shame but no competition, to Sir Bobby.

Also found that we have a representative from Buckinghamshire - Tom Adeyemi, but no one from Berkshire. Surely there must have been a Berk that played for Town at some point.

I think these are the websites I found for the counties:

https://www.jharding.co.uk/list-of-uk-counties/

https://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/County-map-of-Ireland.html#:~:text=The%2

To be honest I was looking for ease of cut and paste rather than a definitive list, and was only slightly looking forward to the ensuing debate...

I have updated the players identified (I should have made clear when I started that this is by place of birth) over the last couple of days with Ben Thatcher (Wiltshire), Gerry Creaney (North Lanarkshire), Dai Cornell (Swansea) and Kieffer Moore (Devon). This whole idea started when I noticed that Christian Walton was born in Wadebridge and I was wondering if he was the first Town player from Cornwall.

I only acknowledge historic counties, not modern administrative areas.
As Somerset is the county of my birth I have to admit that North Somerset is usually known as Gloucestershire!!!

By the same token Mogga's birthplace, Saltburn-By-The-Sea, is in the North Riding of Yorkshire.

Right, I'm off to catch the stagecoach now.

I haven't really got time for this but in peak TWTD mode I am expanding this list for London and Suffolk boroughs to accommodate left out of the list who shouldn't be, I might even do Norfolk boroughs to let Trevor Whymark in. For some reason I have replaced Tommy Smith with David Wright for Cheshire, maybe because Wright was a good player who always seems to get forgotten. Also still have no player for Armagh (though great when I Googled Josh Carson but I was getting Antrim and Armagh mixed up), if only we had signed Pat Jennings.

I believe the full title is Royal Berks, but Bowyer gets a reprieve for the late winner at Upton Park.

[edit] I just had a squint at Chopra's Wikipedia page and was intrigued to find out that Michael is his middle name, his first name is Rocky...as was his footballing career.

Isle of Wight is not a county - it is part of Hampshire.

The Isle of Wight (/waɪt/) is a county and the largest and second-most populous island of England. It is in the English Channel, between two and five miles off the coast of Hampshire, from which it is separated by the Solent.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_Wight

But more importantly, has a Town player even been on holiday there let alone be born there.
