Bristol City's reviews of Bakinson... 09:09 - Jan 21 with 1066 viewsTresBonne

Casts me back a bit towards the Sone Aluko signing. When that happened in the midst of a wave of summer signings, we got a lot of Reading fans with 'meh' reviews.

Low and behold he became one of our best and most important players. No reason why Bakinson can't do the same. KMc won't want his starting CM's in Morsy and Evans to sit comfortably in their roles, and then not have good enough backup.

From what I'm seeing of Bakinson, he seems like more of a solid defensive minded player. We don't have a backup of that at the club, really. If Morsy is to get injured at some point, we'd have Harper, Fraser, Carroll coming in, none of which are defensive minded.

Could genuinely turn out to be a very smart signing.

Careful, according to some that's a false narrative and it never happened and I only said it because I disagreed with the posters.

You are of course absolutely correct.

Again. The talent isn't really being questioned. The attitude is a concern. Rightfully

So no, not comparable with Aluko.

I'm sure "The Teacher" has carefully studied the players we have, assessed what he needs for the systems he's using and, in conjunction with Ashton, identified someone with the right skillset to fill necessary roles.

Well yes it is.....the point being made is that hearsay can't be relied on as an accurate source of info. Regardless of who's mout it comes out of.

So yes, comparable.

If you read any comments over on social media, they're all 'good, he can't play anyway' or 'good, he's sh1t'.

Congrats on proving SB's point.

I didn't come across any manager press conferences with Alukos attitude being questioned. If there was. I apologise and accept it.

Yes and I agree on that comparison. It happens with all players. But I think the attitude side is OK to be concerned about as its not just fan opinion.

Attitude is often environment-based. Perhaps he didn't get on with one or more of the staff, there was something about the training regime or how he was used in matches which rubbed him up the wrong way? Maybe it was demanded that he was gung ho when he simply isn't that kind of bloke (or vice-versa)? Perhaps he's an insuffrable joker and Pearson doesn't have a sense of humour? He might just have got off to a bad start and been labelled as such for all time.

We don't know.

Lots of things which may have applied at Bristol, but might not here, or could be handled differently.

Reading Pearson's comments, it is pretty clear his main gripe was that Bakinson didn't want to be there and had asked to leave. Is that an attitude problem or a young lad that wants to play football?

Absolutely could be the latter.

My concern with that is he did similar at Luton to get a move. Appears to be doing the same now.. absolutely he could flourish and it won't matter but if not what happens behind the scenes when he's not picked, how he is going to handle it. We will just have to wait and see.

I agree, but I believe EADT posted some quotes from Nathan Jones stating similar from when he was at Luton, albeit he was even younger then.

Agree with this. I would hope that when he walked in here he was told how it was going to be, what was expected of him, what we can offer him etc etc, fresh start n all that. If that was done it’s up to him now. If he doesn’t conform, he’s gone in May. Cheerybye.

That is an important point. We have him on effectively a half-season trial. If he turns out to be too difficult to handle, he's back out again.

Bit of a win, win situation. We have signed one loan player and got rid of another. So we can still bring in another loan. Bakinson has to prove himself otherwise we don't sign him. So don't see why everyone is worrying about what Pearson says or what's gone before.

Indeed. As you say, environment plays a massive part. He’s a young man who may or may not have made mistakes at Bristol. And sometimes things just don’t work out for a player or between a player and a manager.

It’s all a bit academic without knowing the ins and outs and getting inside people’s heads. Ultimately, we can only judge him on his conduct with us and whether he becomes an asset within the squad.

Pronouns: He/Him

Time will tell but there is ability there and has played a full season at championship level plus a full season with Newport without a sign of constant injuries .

Perhaps we are finally avoiding mistakes from the past and taking on players that are fit ?

if his attitude is poor we simply send him back at the end of the loan spell so it is up to him.

The thing is, whatever has happened, he’s got a great opportunity at a good club, a team that under McKenna will pass it a lot…and that should suit his game. The quality of opponent should mean that if he puts his mind to it, he ought to put on some eye-catching performances.

Will be interesting to see if he pairs up with Morsy, who on paper is the better partner for him.
