Another U-turn coming very soon? 07:48 - Jan 22 with 947 viewsgtsb1966

I'd forgotten about this. Can't see it ever being implemented to be honest. https://inews.co.uk/news/politics/covid-vaccine-mandate-nhs-staff-paused-governm

Can't see any other approach tbh. Is like so many of the authoritarian proposals that have been suggested the past 2 years, it fails the "practical test" - not that that stops the suggestions being put forward.

See also turning around migrant boats.

How effective any of these things are is highly debatable, albeit the policy probably served its purpose in "nudging" the lazy or indifferent to getting jabbed.

I expect we'll see a u-turn. Unvaccinated staff have worked through 3-4 waves of Covid now and with the government taking the line that the end of the pandemic is in sight it is harder to justify mandatory vaccination. If they were okay to work when things were worse, why not now we're (hopefully) through the worst of it? It becomes hard to justify. Then you add in that pragmatically, the NHS is on its knees and can't really afford to lose large numbers of staff that it's unlikely to be able to replace. It's hard to see them going ahead with this, even though you can make a case that it's the right thing to do.

Most likely is they will pass the buck and put the onus on the individual NHS trusts to come up with their own staff vaccination policies.

As I said at the end of last year, with omicron being relatively manageable, testing will fade away, people will be encouraged to work if symptom free and all talk of covid passports will pass. You can get pelters on here for pointing these things out whether you find the prospect desirable or not.

Edit...even in South Africa with only 52% fully vaccinated it appears that omicron is proving manageable.

Omicron won't be the last variant though. Hopefully the virus continues to have less of an impact as it changes.
