Ukraine must be so annoyed.

The US and EU persuaded them to give up the nuclear weapons left there after the fall of the USSR and in return they promised to protect them from Russian aggression. Russia promised not to be an aggressor if they gave up the weapons.

Instead the US and EU are doing pretty much nothing and you can guarantee Russia wouldn't even be thinking about invading if there were a number of nukes pointed at Moscow by the Ukrainians.

There wouldn't even be a standoff if they had kept their few nukes though, Russia just wouldn't risk it.

As it stands they have very little incentive not to attack if that is what they want to do, especially with countries like Germany looking to stop punitive measures if they do attack.

Essentially the Ukrainians have been thrown under the bus by the West for agreeing to non-proliferation of nukes and then being abandoned when they need to assurances acted upon by the West.
