A telling clip that goes some way to explaining the culture of sleaze

Private Eye journalists were invited to give evidence at a Parliamentary select committee, examining how MPs could be less corrupt (my words)

If ever there were weasel words defending that very sleaze then Bernard Jenkin MP does just that (3.50)

It appears, to him, that MPs are not warned about what they do might be corrupt so they 'unwittingly' get hired by unscrupulous lobbyists. Lambs to the slaughter, we are led to believe.

A good watch is to see how PE rips him and another MP apart

I watched this earlier, this morning on social media. The sad thing is seeing the amount of comments saying things like, "why should we listen to someone as woke as Ian Hislop?"

People really don't give a shiny sh1t do they? They'd rather stick it to the 'lefty woke brigade' than actually care about open bribery.

As long as the right people are being hurt, it's all good.

For some people, lets call them 'Daz V', for example, the open homhobia, racism, corruption and incompetence are features rather than bugs.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Something that has become a word to rally around for the paranoid righties.

Anything that smacks of the 21st Century is now 'woke'.

That questioning and challenging MPs is now 'woke' shows just how far these forelock tuggers have departed from reality, in defence of their 'betters'.

I’ve noticed you using “forelock tugger” a lot lately Harold.

He's a comedy creation from one of our right wing posters in order to make the left look silly, isn't he?

That's the result of tribal politicisation of everything isn't it? Not helped by how social media functions reinforcing those bubbles (although it probably not the only cause). It's a cancer really that gets in the way of us addressing anything seriously. And we've got the end result in parliament now - our only populist mini-Trump trashing all the rules and conventions.

Edit - And having now read the rest of the comments they seem to backup your post quite nicely. Never miss an opportunity to stick one onto "the lefties" rather than discuss the issue.

Given who is being 'accused' of being corrupt is it any wonder the cap doffers are attacking the messenger.

If you watch the clip you will see how corrupt many of the Tory MPs are. Hislop makes a good point when he asks what was the return for the football tickets.

Not only are they being paid for asking questions, but the thought is that they are influencing legislation as well. MPs hired not for any knowledge of that industry, but because they are an MP.

So we are to believe that a lobby firm, working on behalf of a gambling company is payong huge sums just to have an MP on its books ?

Sadly there are those who will defend this stuff because the MPs in question tell these simple minded bigots that they share their small minded views. Are not those from Africa (picannies) 'in possession of 'water melon smiles', Muslim women 'look like letter boxes' gay men are 'tank topped bum boys'.

Spin them any old shyte* and they will follow you to the ends of the earth, believing you to be a fellow bigot.
