Colchester have signed 6 or 7 players (including loans) in the last couple of weeks, and Dobra was not even in the squad that traveled to Salford last Saturday. (Neither was Tom Eastman, which raised a few eyebrows.) Of the new players, one of course is Huws , who has looked good. I fear it's going to be a real struggle for Dobra to get much game time - Huws, Judge, Skuse (though he has an eye injury) Wiredu (if he's not sold), Chilvers, Hannant all seem certain to be preferred. Dobra had one or two very good games, but then a couple of ropey ones and then got injured, - but word is he was 'available' last week but did not even get a place on the bus. (As I say, he was in good company.) Still, 5 games coming up in the next 15 days, and I guess suspensions and injuries will kick in, so perhaps he'll be back in action soon.

not sure what we're going to do with him. Under contract to 2023, but if he can't even get in the Colchester squad, what chance does he have at Town?

Agreed, it's hard to see much future for him at that level if it doesn't 'click' for him in the next month or two. Like all Colchester midfielders this season, there's no end product -he almost never scores. Shoots when he shouldn't, doesn't when he should. But who knows, if the whole team would pick up and play with a bit of swagger, maybe he'll come good. Certainly seems like last chance saloon, (though perhaps worth remembering that he's younger than Bonne was when he couldn't get a game and asked to drop out of the league to go to Orient. )
McGavin too has been stuck at the wrong end of a league table all season too. What next for him?

It's not a great sign that he's struggling at Colchester, but he wouldn't be the first player to go on and have a successful career following an unsuccessful loan spell. It might just be that the coaching, setup and tactics there aren't furthering his development and he'll find that somewhere else.
I expect we'll have him back at Ipswich in the Summer and re-assess.
McGavin it's probably done in terms of him having a league career.
If those are the best bits of half a season and including reserve games against WHU U21s, then he is not going to get into our team. Celina, Chaplin, Burns half season tapes would blow him away.
Wish him well, but cannot see him catching us up.

Hopefully he'll find a change in the coaching and (particularly) the tactics starting right now, and his season can be rescued.

He's 20. He may not make it of course, but there's no harm in giving him a bit of time.

By the age of 20, the better footballers have generally made the step up to first team level.
If you are a part time player at Col U aged 20 in the fourth tier, then you are very unlikely to make it much higher.
I like his attitude but he has little end product. Dobs would have been behind Barrie had he stayed.
Wish him well but he is a long way behind what would improve us.
Highly variable innit. The top ones maybe peak early, but there are plenty around who came through the youth ranks at decent clubs and then had to work their way up through the pyramid. Just seems a bit early to give up on him imo.

Not really
The older a player gets, the less likely they will break into the first team. True at every level.
The odd one bucks the trend, but as a generalisation it is pretty accurate.
For an upwardly mobile L1 team whose near term goal is playing in the championship, we need better players than Dobra has shown to date.
50/50 he will be a professional in two years time.

I'd still take the slightly more optimistic view. Of the players CUFC have sold for decent money recently, yes, Gilbey and Kent were in the team at twenty, but at that age Smodiczs was on loan at Braintree, KVY was in the U23s, and Bonne was getting so little game time he asked to leave for Orient (non-league) when he was 22. And Cohen Bramall didn't make it in league football at all till he was 23. Someone like Wiredu, the club's next big hope for better things and a regular starter, is 22, and that 2 years is a significant difference. 20 is quite young, even in League 2.

You can add Ian Wright and Jamie Vardy as late developers who both ended up having stellar careers.
