Gibbs' hesitation over signing here was about the lack of game time, wasn't it? I'd bet simpson's hesitation is about the same thing.

In the window we signed bakinson to replace harper, who himself has only had six games to show what he can do, and thompson to replace coulson, who apparently is fit again. This club used to be about youth development but i can't see any pathways any more. Only reason el miz got a game at the weekend is because literally everyone else was out.

No Gibbs left because we dicked around for too long before offering him a new contract, something we're very much not doing with Simpson.

You don't go from a League One club to a Premier League club as an 18 year for more game time usually

Fully agree. The club has lost its way in recent decades - and the ‘supporters’ moaning about homegrown players ‘not being good enough’ and enthusing about pointless loans and seemingly endless dud signings Suggests the fans have lost sight of what the club once was as well

In a way it’s a shame McKenna isn’t making better PR about youth development and stability but like the endless stream of managers in recent years he is forced to focus on short term thinking which only sends the club further backwards

Given the choice between a league one club's u23s or a premier league club's u23s, what would you do?

Endless stream of managers? Ridiculous comment.

Its an easy choice, the housing is cheaper in Burnley.

That wasn't your question though.
You asked if he went for more game time, to which the answer is no

Not exactly, i asked if he turned down a contract here because of a lack of game time. If premier league clubs were sniffing around, i'd imagine he'd want to be in and around the first team here.

Think it's basically the same situation although Gibbs played out over a longer period - as things stand at least - and handled poorly in part due to the takeover and everything else going on. He was offered a contract months before he left, he wanted improved terms, there was little liaison between the parties until just before his deal was up.

The crux of the issue here again seems to be a contract having been offered and the player's people wanting more (and whatever was offered to Simpson and Gibbs won't have been a fortune in the grand scheme). Town have obviously sought to put on a bit of pressure by recalling him from his loan.

They have a premier league academy though. Putting rivalries aside - Norwich has an excellent academy and excellent catchment. We used to have much of that catchment but let things deteriorate during Evans' reign.

Lets hope our new management team have the skills to get Tyreece happy . All say he has great potential and Bonne is as things stand here for the rest of this season only. Maybe we can all be singing "He's one of our own" to him next season or sooner ? I say all the luck in the world to the young man.

Yes they have a good academy… but so they should frankly , give the amount of Sky money they’ve received over the last decade …what is it roughly half a £billion? Compared to our financial demise since administration….I do think we’ve done too badly tbh.. we “ failed “ to join the “closed membership”, elite premier league academy by something like 0.03% scoring….it’s a complete joke the way this so called Premier League is a self serving , Sky funded elitist “ club” …. Let’s be honest Norwich are a primary example of how Sky money “ rewards “, essentially, failure . They don’t even try to compete at that level …( they’ve never shown any intent of even trying to compete) unlike much smaller clubs I might add, that have made it to the promised land.

So all this flag waving look how good they are. Etc etc doesn’t wash me …they are a Sky funded enigma, and represent all that is wrong with Sky funded s9 called premier league. It’s utter bollox, and it’s t representative of the true game. Take the top 5. Labs outs of the premier league and what have you got, Just well funded clubs from tv subscriptions who THINK they are a cut above ….. take the tv money away, and they’d collapse overnight… just like we did 20 years ago,

Rant over ..thanks for listening 👍.

Something we could control, and didn't - was our community outreach. We've simply not been active in many of the smaller villages and towns as we used to be. One such example is Diss. A small town, but on the LLS to Norwich line, and has a fairly broad demographic of wealth. Lots of families - used to be pretty Ipswich-centric. Now, it is very Norwich skew. That isn't just glory hunting, it is an example of our outreach program going to crap.

One thing I don't really understand is that with 7 substitutes possible, rather than putting 3 senior strikers on the bench when it's vanishingly unlikely that we'd need all three, we ought to just each week put a Gibbs, Simpson, Humphreys, Chirewa type player on the bench, and if we're 3-0 up and playing champagne football, give them 10 minutes.

The idea that young players 'aren't ready' is nonsense - it's our job as a club to push their development, give them responsibility so that they are ready and unfazed to step in. We've made some awful decisions in the development of young players in recent years - starting Liam Gibbs in a league game then taking him off after 45 minutes when he'd never been in a league match-day squad before that was a prime example.

What does 'in name only' mean?

They are, in 'fact' a PL club, at least until May and possibly beyond. They have good support and perform well on modest means. Our ambition, for the time being, should be to emulate them.

From our position - third tier mid-table - laughing at Norwich is a bit hollow.

It’s a bit more basic than that. Town have been second rate and now third rate for this entire century more or less. Impressionnable youngsters and grasping parents weigh up £ signs and opportunities - and Town don’t score highly for either. Pretending Town are good at youth development now is bit like eulogising Burnley because Burnley were in the 60´s and 70´s. …. Or perhaps Crewe. A number of overstaffed academies ship their rejects and hopefuls abroad now - that too is rather difficult when the airport is a housing estate.

Hang on a minute, I think you missed out the part when after our administration we got taken over by a billionaire who initially pumped loads of money into the club. Not sure Norwich had that happen to them. We didn’t take our chance and they did with less money pumped in.
And I’m pretty sure our new owners and investors would love to get their hands on some of that PL money.
