He’s better defensively than anyone else we have in that position. I think KM has pinpointed that Edmunson doesn’t like straying too far from the centre, in stark contrast to Janoi on the right, so we need that extra defensive cover on the left. |  |

Indeed, lots of people seem to have taken against Thompson because he isn't a flying winger type, but I suspect he's been recruited precisely because he defends well. |  |

Meh, he's improved immensely, and last night actually through the game. He's got up to speed methinks/hopes.
I love how Kenlock always tries to play football, but his positional sense is non existent and it's a liability. Penney an upgrade imo, and Thompson starting to look a different class.

He's utter tosh and can't pass for toffee so the fact he's 'technically' better at defending than Penney is something of a moot point given that the rest of his game is significantly inferior (which based on the three performances so far it is).
