Western Hypocrisy 16:30 - Feb 10 with 4431 views | blueasfook | Quote from Liz Truss - "not just a threat to European peace, security and democracy" but a threat to global security - and warns there could be "dire consequences" for all of the world if a sovereign country can be invaded without consequences. I dont remember Russia coming out with this rhetoric when US and UK invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Why getting so hot under the collar about Ukraine. [Post edited 11 Feb 2022 8:32]

I dunno about gloating, but it is quite depressing that we have a foreign secretary incompetent and dimwitted enough to allow this to be done to them.

Western Hypocrisy on 16:40 - Feb 10 by ITFC_Cotton | So you think that the rest of the world should just let Russia bully it’s neighbours into giving up territory? What exactly do you expect the UK and US to say? That an invasion of Ukraine wouldn’t have dire consequences? |
The USA that was terrified of having any Soviet friendly regimes in South America and actively worked to remove democratically elected governments?
Western Hypocrisy on 21:03 - Feb 10 with 1391 views | jeera | They had plenty to say about Syria though and happily threw their support behind a corrupt regime there. All about interests isn't it? They're not there out of the goodness of their collective heart. Constant intimidation and destabilisation is the name of the game. Doesn't detract from how utterly embarrassing it is to have someone like Truss representing our country though. [Post edited 10 Feb 2022 21:07]

That last Tweet is quite something, if true. And you can well imagine it being true. I wouldn’t expect anything less from Russia whoever we sent, as they’ll be playing to their audience as much as Truss is trying to do to hers. But the Russians are going to be MUCH better at those games than Truss and co. And did we really have to send someone so spectacularly dim over there to go toe to toe with them? Only ever one winner. Surely we have some experienced diplomats left in the Civil Service who could have done this away from the cameras. Or have they all been cleared out by this embarrassment of a government? I preferred it when America was the global laughing stock.

I bet he knows the significance of Dover.

Nobody is falling for it in fairness. The embarrassment around Truss stems from far more than a dressing down from a despot regime that has killed people on our soil (Pork Markets!). All the more reason to have intelligent grown ups in charge.

With the Germans appeasing the Russians, and the UK being one of the few European countries who are willing to stand up to them, Putin didn’t really get much for his investment did he?

I think Putin got an awful lot for his "investment" - just look at the current state of the UK - do you not think that Putin and Tufton St have similar aims in terms of destabilising the West to make a profit?

Apart from the success of permanently destabilising Western Europe, he has also bought himself a perfect pantomime villain. The UK trying to get threatening is terrific for garnering support. Those self-important ex-colonial clowns Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan etc etc

I can't really see what Putin can win by invading, but then that's what people say before almost every war.

Western Hypocrisy on 18:00 - Feb 10 by GlasgowBlue | This is quite worrying that people are so anti-Tory that they are gloating about the rhetorical thuggery of a regime poised to invade a European democracy. |
More worrying, wiling to back a regime that unleashed a nerve agent in the streets of Britain.
