How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? 13:27 - Mar 10 with 5139 views | IP4_Blue | I would be against it, as I think we would just need to eventually replace Cobbold and Magners stands. Also the statues we have at Portman Rd I see Cruncher had mentioned this on twitter. Do you think it could happen?

How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 14:05 - Mar 10 by Illinoisblue | Not really. Many teams continue to survive and have nowhere near that big of a capacity. Brighton, Leicester, Wolves, Southampton, Palace |
Compared to TV money, income from match days has become less important.

How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 18:07 - Mar 10 with 687 views | Fixed_It | It's a resounding 'no' from me. Too many Clubs have sold out, and as a result 'souled' out. Only plastic fans would ever think it's a good idea.

How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 19:06 - Mar 10 with 660 views | LegendofthePhoenix | Definitely no, but redevelopment of the existing stadium needs the town council to get on board. They need to realise that regeneration of the town of Ipswich is more dependent upon ITFC than anything else. The council planners were difficult the last time the stadium was developed, hence the reason the SBR is in two tiers with the upper tier overlapping Portman Walk beneath. The Cobbold needs more space - Portman road needs to have a kink to the east to allow at least another 15 -20 yards or so depth to the Cobbold stand. And ideally, replace the SBR with a single tier stand so we can regain the atmosphere of the old North. Obviously that would be a huge price to pay to improve the atmosphere, I don't know if a clever audio system could join up the singing between upper and lower tiers, which would be a much lower cost option.

How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 19:14 - Mar 10 with 649 views | Swansea_Blue | Only if it’s a plain concrete identikit stadium in the middle of a retail park and renamed McDonalds Chicken McNuggets Stadium. Terrible idea. Having said that, PR is looking pretty sad and tired these days thanks to a lack of care during Evans’ time. It’s big enough, so presumably it’d be cheaper to just sort out the Cobbold side rather than relocate. Depends whether we want to own it too - presumably that’s all been talked about already in the thread.

Otherwise not a chance. Ease of access from station, closeness to pubs in town, club history, famously sh1t beer - so many reasons why it’s great as it is. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 20:13 - Mar 10 with 568 views | Churchman | I would replace the Cobbold (East) stand. It’s 50 years old and no longer fit for purpose. I’d have the roof linked to NS and Churchmans, same pitch to it. I’d replace the West stand with something purpose built, same height, facilities, infrastructure etc extending out towards the training pitch, no higher than NS and Churchmans. I’d have the dressing rooms there with a tunnel out from the middle of the stand, offices, gyms and corporate in there. The corner of Churchmans and West: get rid of the odd Wendy house and dross behind it and put something better there for the players, staff etc. Where the tatty marquee is, build something permanent and useable. Club shop corner - relocate the shop to the millets tent area, build something special and turn that old space into corporate rooms or demolish and put seats in. It’d be cheaper to demolish and rebuild the whole ground, but I like continuity and the memories, even if there’s virtually nothing left of the stadium that was there when I first went. Just musing.
How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 20:25 - Mar 10 with 555 views | tractorshark | Horrific suggestion. Makes me angry just thinking about it. Portman Road is our home, it is big enough for our needs, there is scope to expand, and most importantly it has character. Ask most fans whose clubs have moved stadium and they will tell you it’s nice and comfy but it’s not the same. Just soulless toilet bowls straight from the IKEA off-the-shelf stadium kits. Those who moan about the atmosphere at Portman Road should look at themselves. We are a placid fanbase at home, always have been. But as the playoff semi-final v Norwich proved, the ground can rock if you want it to. The solution to that is working with the club to get the noisier fans massed together (preferably in the middle) rather than just stuck in a corner. I travel to Germany to watch football and their ultras do exactly that. Co-ordinated chanting for 90 minutes that just spreads like wildfire through the stadium. But move stadiums? Not for me. When your priority is a comfy seat and better travel links, you’ve lost sight of the true essence of football. Portman Road is perfectly imperfect.

How would people feel about us moving to a brand new purpose built stadium? on 06:51 - Mar 11 with 437 views | Bluespeed225 | Just need the North Stand to be a single stand. I know there were/are issues with the road behind, but i don't see how it needs to be any bigger? Our crowd size would still fit in, anyone who didn't like it could relocate to other areas. I did sit in West Upper once though, and even at 5 foot 6 tall I found it a squeeze! Like wise Cobbold with elderly Brummy in law for matches. He did struggle a bit. Don't think wed ever need over 35K.
