Really sad news to read.

He was always my fave out of him Downes and Dozzell.

Great Left foot, versatile, was almost a main stay under Mick for one season. That injury must have really set him back. I thought he was going to the top.

Sad.

That is sad news. A fantastic little footballer - would have been great to see him fulfill his potential.

Ready! Steady! Cook!

Real shame. Met his dad at Birmingham City and stayed in touch with him from time to time. Gutted for the lad.

Really sad and so cruel to be good enough and have it taken away. Hope he finds a way to stay in the game.

Truly impaired.

Gutted for him. A technically gifted player, maybe McKenna will see some of himself in him, and offer him a coaching role with one of the youth teams

Terribly sad, 22 is obvs way too young to retire.

Nice bio here -

That is really sad. I was at Notts County that evening and it was clear it was a bad one. Hoped we’d see him back in blue but it wasn’t to be. A really gifted player.
All the best in whatever he does next.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Hope he gets the chance to get a send off from the crowd on Saturday, though I sense it might be Paul Mariner focused, so Cambridge the following week might make more sense.

He had real promise; shame the injuries caught up with him.

Thats right. I forgot it was a pre season game.

That would have been Paul Hurst pre season. Bizarrely had he not got that injury he would've been one of the more experienced championship players in that side.

EDIT- just read the interview, it was Lambert Pre Season. My bad

Actually gutted reading about this. Loved him in his time as a young player coming through.

He will do amazing at whatever he puts his mind to next, with his attitude and determination.

What a ridiculous decision that was looking back.

I know KD was always really keen on him,

Indeed – real shame.

And I agree he looked the best of the bunch in his first season. You can’t blame Hurst for the injuries but you wonder what would have happened if Nydam hadn’t been jettisoned almost as soon as Hurst came in. He brought in Edun on loan (who was basically Nydam) then hardly used Edun either.

At the very least Nydam would have played more games for us and enjoyed more time at the Championship level he was meant to be playing at.

Best of luck to him whatever the future holds. He deserves it.
