It’s a bit of a silly design really, so was probably bound to happen and little harm done. It’s not like it’s his grave that’s been desecrated. Arguably the real issue is whether this statue should be there at all. The idea of singling out one player out of sentimentality for a statue from all our great ex-players (arguably some more worthy) was a little unfair and shortsighted.

People may think that I'm just doing that edgy thing but to be honest I think it's kind'a ok to see statues and such becoming part of the living fabric of a town. Shame about the chipping but it isn't a public hanging and flogging thing imho.
I’ve no problem with that in principle, but you’d probably need to take that into account in the design. As it is it looks like the skateboarders are well on the way to making the writing unreadable, which kind of defeats the primary purpose of the statue.

If TWTD wants to start a fund for repairs and protective fences/walls I am happy to donate. Thousands of others will too I am sure.
According to the Ipswich Star, Ipswich Borough Council will soon start work on repairing the damage, and are looking at some sort of measures to prevent it happening again, such as a low-level barrier.

Very big and hard of you.
Yes, me minding my own business and laughing at morons who equate that to anti-social behaviour is totally the same as threatening violence on children for being children.

It is a complete planning oversight in hindsight. It didn’t even cross my mind but yeah, hell of an angle for wall rides!
It’s a storm in a tea cup over unintentional damage. Those wheel marks will easily scrub off and the chip is easily fixable. Whack some flowers and a ledge around it and it won’t happen again.
That or they’ll have made it into an even more rad gap wall ride.

Lol.
Quite surprising how many hard men there are on this board. I always considered it to be the hallmark of a proper hard man to threaten violence on kids.

Yet someone can slap someone for ableist comments towards their wife and we get six pages of moral outrage about violence.

He needs to grow up and get a life. How dare he have a hobby which keeps his fitness up, requires endless practice to get good and has continued endless creative possibilities. He should get a real hobby like going down the pub.
Without tarring the whole subculture of skateboarding as "oiks" or making empty threats of "wait till I get my hands on them" let's just realise that those who did it probably had no idea whatsoever what they statue meant, or who the beat was. To them, it's just another piece of street furniture. Hope they can learn some respect.
Reckless ignorance at worse.
And whilst we're at it, move that fast food truck from behind it on matchdays!

It may have been unintentional initially but only a moron, or someone who doesn’t give a Sh*t, would continue once it became clear damage was being caused. Therefore it is malicious damage.

The tiny chip and easily cleanable wheel scuffs you mean?

Cant you do all of those without causing damage to public property?

Bet you would want justice if Boris had done it, although not sure the sight of Boris on a skateboard would be a pleasant thing.
It’s more the fact that some kids did their hobby on it, and said hobby cam be a but rough and tumble on it’s surroundings.
It’s dumb and thoughtless to do it on said location, but not malicious or intentional. That chip was probably done from a single catch of the truck.
I’m not sure what Johnson has to do with it, but I can certainly say in the scheme of things the outrage over some kids with planks of wood on wheels could certainly be directed to more important and intentional vandalism to our economy and society by said man and his band of b@stards.

Wouldnt the markings show they've done it over and over again rather than just a couple of times.. surely each time they can see the damage being caused..

Those wheel scuffs will scrub off easy so I expect they didn’t really see it in the OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING context that some others are claiming on here.
I’ve never said they weren’t silly for doing it (the opposite in fact) but the desperate need to claim it was intentional or anti social is just desperate faux outrage.

I see where you're coming from regarding some posts
But I dont agree that it's not intentional or anti social.
Doing it once and thinking sht, I didnt realise it would do that... that's not intentional. But filming it, repeating the act is intentional without a care for the damage they can clearly see they are causing and that then falls into anti social. It's no different to using a spray can because they want to use their artistic skills.

The only actual “damage” is the chip, which again looks like a truck caught that exact spot once. The wheel scuffs are marks and aren’t anything too bad, they look worse as they are fresh.
I expect they were too busy having fun and doing their hobby to really think about much else. As I’ve said, silly move but really not an act of intentional or malicious vandalism for the sake of anti social behaviour as some are claiming.
I speak from experience as someone who still gets out on his board occasionally and lived on it as a teen. I’ve been there and done it on public property myself, but I had the brains to not do it on something that evidently has some level of sentimental value to the community.

Probably a good chance that they’ve never heard of Kevin Beattie was or what he meant to many. Not that ignorance is an excuse but it does clarify their actions somewhat.

Maybe add a little notice underneath it to explain who he was and what he meant to the club. I do like a good notice to explain the significance of statues.

Don’t forget the public beating from adult males who need something to project their inadequate views of themselves through toxic masculinity too. That’s the most important part of said justice.
