Kevin Beattie statue damaged… 🤬 on 17:16 - Apr 18 by monytowbray | Ironically, I bet half the c**ts getting lairy over this have never kicked a football where it shouldn’t be kicked and broken anything. Lobbing a cricket ball around the street could literally hurt and kill someone else though, so not sure how the two are comparable. |
As a kid I used to play football and tennis in the middle of the road behind the Co-op TWTD

Kevin Beattie statue damaged… 🤬 on 00:18 - Apr 18 by mo_itfc | Some people dont know who Kevin Beattie was. This is a nice enough bank, there isnt much else like this and its definitely accessible. Its harmless fun, concrete can repaired. |
"Some people don't know who Kevin Beattie was" How does that change anything? It is clearly a memorial - Kevin Beattie 1953 - 2018 If one were to do the same thing on a gravestone would it be acceptable if they didn't know who that person was? Pretty ignorant self entitled stuff to say the very least.

Been a shame since day one, that the statue didn’t resemble The Beat.

So - MattinLondon Do you think it is acceptable to damage a memorial - which I am sure is of great pride to KB's loved ones. Is that actually your position?

No one has said it’s fine. What people have said is a witch hunt over kids skating on it, as if it was intentional vandalism, is a bit off with all context considered. It’s also not a grave. [Post edited 18 Apr 2022 21:04]

Kevin Beattie statue damaged… 🤬 on 17:11 - Apr 17 by BanksterDebtSlave | "Div" seems a strong response to a post you can't disect and find you point of objection to. I would be pleased that they had been out on a sunny day engaged in physical activity rather than anti social behaviour or locked in a bedroom playing on a screen. I would hazard a guess that there was no malicious intent behind these kids actions. As stated before it's a shame about the chips (so maybe a quick course in plastering a good edge) for whoever did it...the tyre marks though don't personally bother me. |
It is anti-social behaviour!

I can at least live with this take. You and your big chunks of metal death traps! But watching people imply “Oh so you agree with what they did then?” over and over when no one has done such a thing is getting quite dull. I suppose it’s easier to discuss things when any counter point or statement is ditched in favour of stuff one makes up in their own head.

Some of the people raging on here still occasionally hark back to their glory days of going to football games and violently assaulting people, so yeah. Meh.

Kevin Beattie statue damaged… 🤬 on 12:55 - Apr 18 by MattinLondon | Probably a good chance that they’ve never heard of Kevin Beattie was or what he meant to many. Not that ignorance is an excuse but it does clarify their actions somewhat. |
You don't have to have heard of him to realise a statue bang outside a football ground, with a nice presentation area around it and it all being sparkly new is likely to mean something to people. It's not like a park bench that may have been erected after someone died that they weren't aware of - it's quite obviously a statue

Kevin Beattie statue damaged… 🤬 on 17:34 - Apr 17 by MattinLondon | To a certain extent I do agree with you. Some of the comments on here about the skaters seem to be straight out of the news comments section - thought that the forum was meant to be more considered. Some statues are more equal than others - if the Giles statue in the town centre was used as a ramp (or whatever skaters do) then very few people would care. But as it’s a statue of Kevin Beattie then it’s more revered by more people. |
Grandma vs The Beat - bring it on!!!
