I predict she’ll be seen alongside Putin for a phot op within 2 weeks. There is a financial grift to follow through on now
I am surprised it isn't running closer. France (as the rest of the west) seems to have a bit of a rightwing leaning these days as globalisation becomes a bigger, and no less mythical, bogey man.

Couple of countries rejected right wing candidates today
Le Pen is delivering a not very conciliatory concession speech now. She says she lost because French people were subject to "unfair violent practices" by Macron's government. pic.twitter.com/GWbLD7mLoB

I wouldn't be surprised if events in Ukraine swang that result in Slovenia. Suddenly the EU bloc is looking like a massive safety blanket for some countries.

eh ?
apart from Oban in Hungary the right is failing in Europe, as the only thing they can offer is more hate and more lies wrapped up in populist nonsense.
La plume de ma tante has been all over the place, wanting out of the EU/then not, banning veils/then not and offering stuff even Johnson wouldn't promise
I suspect it was more a vote against someone who is not in reality as looney right as she makes out, merely another opportunist with no principles, much as Johnson and Farage, who see no wrong in being in the pay of Putin, or making ludicrous promises they have no intent or ability to deliver on.

I am no fan of Farage or Johnson, but I ask you again show me the proof Johnson is in the pay of Putin. From where I am sitting Macron and Germany are more in the pay for how little they are doing to help Ukraine.

There are many things I don’t really understand and the French election has baffled me. I’ve watched a fair bit of the coverage and there’s been interview after interview of French people who profess to being left-leaning but stated that they’ll be voting for La Pen rather than for Macron - or abstaining - Just seems ridiculous.
It’ll be like a hard socialist here voting for Farage or the BNP rather than for a Blairite.

Johnson wouldn’t be where he is now without the likes of Banks bankrolling Brexit. There are questions about both Banks’ relationship with the Kremlin as well as Johnson’s (Banks has been publicly very pro-Kremlin). Not too many, because a lot of the media are owned by people with similar financial aims, but it’s there. Carole Cadwalladr got dragged through the courts because she was brave enough to ask to questions that need asking. Some of what she’s unearthed is still unable to be released because of the case, but what looks increasingly likely is that there’s a significant pro-Kremlin influence in our politics that played a major role in putting Johnson where he is.
And that’s before we get to us hosting and laundering money for the oligarchs who fund Putin’s lavish lifestyle and/or fund the Tory Party, which again contributed to the successes of Brexit and the GE19 campaign. Why do you think Johnson too so long to act on sanctions and then also gave them massive grace periods to move assets. A lot of it was sanctions in name only.

Eh? Why does all the russian money flow into the tory party?
What do you think they've had in return?
£2m from the wife of Putin's former finance minister. Where do you think this money comes from?
Why did Boris suppress the HoC special committee report?
"I haven't seen any evidence of interference" = "I haven't looked for any evidence".
Bunga bunga parties with the KGB in Umbria having just left a NATO meeting to discuss Russia and have "lost" his security detail as UK Foreign Secretary.
MI6 not giving him security clearance as Foreign Secretary under T May.
What would equate to "proof" for you? Photos of Putin handing over used notes?
Ask yourself what Putin wanted to see in the UK back in 2014 as he sent in the troops to Crimea?
It's all happened to his script.
Have you read the Mueller report?

Also.... what exactly did Dominic Cummings get up to in his 2 year stay in Moscow?
Maybe he was just visiting the tourist attractions, checking his eye sight.....things like that

Much as with red wall voters who said in 2019 that they were voting against Labour........ as they had done nothing for them the past ten years (durrr)
In France the problems lies with among many things pensions. After the war workers were taking better paid jobs away from the government. To keep things going employees were offered what now seem incredible generous terms.... retiring at 50 on full pay etc. Not so generous when set against a much lower life expectancy, but crippling now.
As with the UK it is the areas where heavy industry prevailed that have become prey to the lies of Le Pen, Farage and Johnson. As these industries disappear, so the brightest and best also go. Leaving behind (in general) a largely disgruntled and 'unskilled' workforce. In the UK became of an absolutely fcked up housing policy they are trapped.
Own or rent a house 'oop north' and you have no chance of moving to take a hob elsewhere - as was the case with those industries, along with the mills and coal pits previous to that.
That the 'levelling up' was no more than a blatant lie, as were Johnson's words to the fishing industry, is only now slowly being grasped. But as said numerous times on here "It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they’ve been fooled”. Reasoned argument has had little sway, as with those who believe in spiritualism, and sundry other nonsense.
Much as with the lottery. A ticket bought on Thursday morning dives you 3 days worth of hope - and explaining that the odds on winning the jackpot are about the same as being dropped in London and the first person you meet is the one person in London you know, count for nothing. The ticket is a sign that however small you have a chance, where none existed before
Rightwing politicians (sociopaths) have no scruples about peddling similar myths. The bigger the lie the more it is believed. Look how life after death is still believed, despite there not being a shred of evidence to support it. Rational argument alone will not dissuade people who for many reasons need that hope/delusion.
Evangelist preachers in the US have made fortunes out of peddling such utter nonsense. Sadly there are still those in the UK (and France) who hold that they could not be so stupid as to fall for blatant lies.
I give you the 2019 election, and Brexit

Bizarrely, in Moldova the pro-Russia BECS alliance has seen a boost in the polls since the invasion (despite the possibility that Russia is trying to get a land bridge to Transnistria, the part of Moldova it has semi-occupied since the 1990s).

Think of it as being a bit like Banksy being pro Brexit or Harry posting links to far right conspiracy theories. Just because there's a lot of stupid right wingers, it doesn't mean that they have a monopoly on it.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It is thought that it was connected with algorithms etc
Crunching the data, and fixing the outgoing message. Previously when someone like the Mail came up with 'Labour set to make home ownership illegal, EU to ban Xmas' and other such twaddle, it was out in the open and could be challenged.
Now we have no idea what sh.ite is being fed to gullible halfwits.... Q anon, so you cannot even challenge it, other than when some numpty spouts the shte they have been told. They will then tell it is because 'they' don't want you to know.
Yes, there is an awful lt that is not told to us, but in the main it is the sort of stuff we probably do not need to know. Whereas the belief that the Democratic Party are all pedos based around pizza shops, and are killing children is just plain daft, as it is dangerous.
The scary stuff Cambridge Analytics were doing is a pointer. The lies have not stopped. It's just there method of dissemination have moved on.

I suppose it's not different to here or anywhere else; most people don't really understand what is it they're voting for.
We're hardly the best informed so I guess maybe most populations are the same.
Channel 4 were doing the rounds a couple of days ago (France) asking random folk in the street for their preferences and among several surprising replies there was also the disappointing responses that you see everywhere.
What is it about [candidate] that appeals to you?
"Yes, they will do a good job I think".
And why's that?
"I just think they'll be really good."
So no reasoning whatsoever because they simply didn't know. And that's not a dig at the electorate. People are not well-informed at all are we?
Do all parties deliberately fail to do this because they know there's some things they cannot solve so feel it's best to just smooth over actual issues and rely on soundbites?
You'd think a potentially successful party would be able to tell its citizens exactly what they're aiming for and wouldn't mind explaining how they intend to go about things so we have an idea what to vote for.
They choose not to be, that is their choice. There is plenty of information out there ie an habitual and well known lies, is in all probability going to be lying to you, yet.......
The electors of Lowestoft thought it would be a good idea to elect someone so thick she believed what Blubba told her. As someone working in the fishing industry it should have been blatantly obvious that he was lying to her. Not because he is a liar, but because what was being promised could not be delivered.
As earlier, it seems certain folk want to be comforted with dreams (delusions) rather than have to deal with reality.
That there are shysters then willing to expoit them should be obvious, but apparently not

Yes but there has always been a lack of education for the masses when it comes to this.
People now have become more aware because of the increase in higher education but there's a still a lot of people who were not given access to the same level of information who, frankly, still wouldn't know how to access it, through no fault of their own.
I am not referring to the likes of Mummery of course, who is a rather unpleasant individual in her own right.
Although to go back somewhat on that point, some of the people I was talking about in the Channel 4 news clip in France were quite young so what do I know?
Lack of interest maybe leading to a lack of willing for people even trying to dig further?
Thing is either way, if one wishes to get elected it's up to them to take the information to the people it wants to reach. I'm not looking to make excuses, I am saying we are let down by those who would lead.
Flipping leaflets that land on the doormat say nothing for example. Not of note.
