I think he has to be, I don't think anyone has assisted as consistently as he does, and those that are close are perhaps more luxury players - which isn't something that could be thrown De Bruyne - he also works hard, gets stuck in and scores more than his share of goals

It shows how quickly things move on, because had this question been posed only 5 years ago both Lampard and Gerrard would have been mentioned repeatedly. And Beckham deserves a mention, at least.

There's loads of greats, and it is hard to compare an Attacking Midfielder, like Le Tissier, with a Defensive Midfielder, like Makelele. I always thought Essien was superb, as well.

KDB is mentioned elsewhere as the best passer, but for long range, how about Xabi Alonso? Or for pass and move, Fabregas?

Keane has been mentioned, but not Patrick Vieira.

And has Yaya Toure been forgotten already? He had everything.

And let's not forget the magical Kinkladze, Juninho or David Silva.

And I'll add mentions for under-rated, but hugely influential, central midfielders, Gary McAllister and Mikel Arteta. Not THE best midfielders, but players who absolutely transformed and defined the club sides that they played for.

In the modern era there is perhaps only Fabregas and Scholes who you could compare as being as good as KDB (David Silva is perhaps another and Gerrard and Lampard at an absolute push)

Before anyone can definitively create a top 50 of prem league players you have to take into consideration exactly who do/did those players have around them, Le Tiissier is a bloody good shout and more deserving of being that list than a lot of modern players just because o his team mates, he chose to be faithful to Southampton and total respect for him for doing so but what if he left and played for a bigger club???
