Becker’s situation is not a tragedy. It’s completely of his own making. The judge said "You have... sought to distance yourself from your offending and your bankruptcy. "While I accept your humiliation as part of the proceedings, there has been no humility."

How true. Given my mother was Norfolk born and (in)bred along with literally all her family going back centuries, I’m fortunate my dads family all came from Suffolk and the ITFC brand was applied at the earliest possible age to prevent any possible mistakes and possible exile to a distant land.

He's obviously behaved extremely badly (and stupidly - did he really think he'd get away with trying to hide all the trophies he's won, which are clearly on the public record?!) but I do have a small degree of sympathy in that he lost a lot of his wealth as a result of an apparently very messy divorce.
Of course it could be argued that there again he shouldn't have behaved so badly, but many people do and aren't punished as hard as that. |  |
