I would like to see Morsy being the more attacking CM next season. I think he influences games more there, is difficult to tackle and would score more goals if he had that role for a whole season, I think either of Evans/Bakinson playing the more defensive CM is perfectly good enough and we don't need to strengthen this area. Feel free to disagree. Defensively I'm happy with what we've got. Again feel free to disagree.

Which leaves maybe a couple of strikers, a number 10 and a left wing back (or 2 LWBs).

Who could we realistically get who would improve us? Scott Twine would be the obvious choice but nobody thinks we could get him here now, so who's left? I know it's early and it's only speculation, but anyway..

A few potentials at Peterborough.. Johnson Clarke-Harris, someone mentioned Harrison Burrows as a left wing back, I'd like to see us bring Hayden Coulson back as left wing back but I can't remember how bad his injury record is. Also is Szmodics an option?

Not sure that the likes of Cole Stockton and Alfie May would be an upgrade on what we have. Does anyone think that McKenna might persevere with players like Bonne, Pigott, Edwards etc or will they be gone? Clearly they must have ability but for whatever reason it's not happened for them.

Fans are saying that they are excited about next season and McKenna will sort things out. Just can't see that we can attract players here that are an upgrade on what we've already got so I'm not feeling so optimistic as I don't know how he can generate the attacking threat we need.

I think the players we are targeting are higher standard than the names given. (Exception being Twine).

Poll: Apologies I'm bored. How many signings will we have by Plymouth at home.

Can you or anyone else give any examples of potential signings? If we can't attract Twine here then I'm struggling to see how we can attract strikers of more quality than Johnson Clarke-Harris.

I guess we will go for players from the relegated teams or lower to mid table championship but even then it proved difficult to persuade some players to drop down to division 1 before and would likely be a challenge again. And I'm not convinced that the likes of Cole Stockton and Alfie May are an upgrade on what we've already got. Would Bonne and Pigott be a lot more effective if they got better service (i.e. are they really the problem and would we just be trading like for like if we ditched them?).

Who is out there who could potentially be the 'marquee' striker we need? I'd like Jamie Vardy but don't think it will happen

Still unconvinced that bringing Bakinson in is enough for CM. If Morsy is out of the team.... we look light-weight. And Morsy will miss games. And bringing Bakinson and another enforcer type in seems a bit too much over-kill with the amount of CM's we've got.
Just remember the concerns we had when Morsy was suspended. It feels we're a little too reliant on him and I don't think Bakinson, Evans, El Mizouni, Harper fills the void in terms of physicality. If we can offload some CM's then I'd consider bringing in Bakinson plus an enforcer type. Morsy may be playing higher up, but he's still snapping around the midfield in defensive areas.

He has been hence the reason he’s been getting in the box more and scoring a few. He’ll be box-to-box, not an outright AM though.

To be fair Clarke Harris would be a decent shout.
I mean I understand higher standard than the Alfie May's and Stockton's of the World.

Jerry Yates of Blackpool would be my shout of a striker we might go for.
Derby's financial situation might be something to keep an eye on.
They have a number of players that fit the image of a "Mark Ashton" signing with a view to selling on a couple years later for a decent profit.
It's an exciting time.

I think that Bakinson and Morsy are very similar types of players in that they are both typical box to box CM types. Morsy is stronger, both in the tackle and in possession, but Bakinson has the better pass and shot. I think on balance I would prefer to see Morsy hold and let a more dynamic CM drive, or pass, forward and take the odd pot shot for Jackson or a similarly fleet-footed striker to follow up any GK spills. Not sure that Evans is that type of player either, but I think he could be.

When Phil asked Ashton a question about recruitment for the Championship v League 1, a few weeks back, the answer was something like we will be recruiting the same standard of player regardless of which division we end up in. That answer seems slightly ridiculous to me, but I think he was trying to say that we will be recruiting for the Championship whilst still in League 1. The likes of Morsy, Burns, Walton, the back 3, Chaplin, Celina are arguably all proof of that already.

With regards to your last paragraph, I think that we can certainly recruit better quality strikers and LWBs than we presently have. I am absolutely confident of that.

I would be absolutely amazed if Twine comes here.

He will be in the Championship next season, with or without MK, at least and that’s if a lower Premiership team doesn’t take a punt on him.

Morsy could be an excellent box to box midfielder. But he will need better defensive cover than Bakinson or Evans imo.

Both very good players and Evans especially has a good eye for a pass, but both are a little lightweight in the tackle.

For Morsy to fully realise his potential we will need a specialist holding midfielder. What people used to call "the Makélélé role".

The downside to Morsy is he ain't that great at shooting.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
