My favourite cricketer of all time.

I grew up watching him and Nasser keeping England in matches when we were pretty dire. Much like Root now I guess.

Thorpe was classy, stylish a selectors dream in terms of technique.

Hope he's OK

That statement really doesn't look very good does it? Hopefully he can recover.

Oh no. One of my favourite all time players too. Style and grit in equal measure. Hope he recovers from whatever it is.

Thorpey and The Judge were my favourite batsmen of that time, style and grit sums them up perfectly. Exactly the type of player we are sorely missing right now.

He was lovely on the eye, as lefties seem to be. But in my memory he never quite reached the highs he could/should have done. Stats say he had a good average, but in my m8nd he failed to regularly to convert solid starts into really big scores. Only 16 centuries stands out.

But this isn’t really the time for that debate - what matters now is that he pulls through and gets better, for his sake and his family. Get well soon Thorpie.
