ITFC job - does this bother anyone else? 13:07 - May 13 with 5094 views | TractorJack | https://www.itfc.co.uk/club/jobs/ Have a look at the Academy Analyst role here and the renumeration section. I know this is a university placement year but they won't just be sitting around watching. Considering the levels of investment now, why isn't this a paid role?

Yep. As any full time job should be.

Many football clubs embrace a lot of poor employment practices. We are not obliged to be one of them.

Fans want investment in players. Followed by fans upset the club isn't paying out on something that doesn't need to be paid out for. It's not a poor employment practice in anyway. No one is forced to apply for it. And they've clearly shown what the role includes and there will be someone who will be very appreciative of the opportunity.

Give over, paying interns a living wage would have negligible impact on our budget for playing staff. Like I said above, unpaid internships are a barrier to those who aren't in a position to work unpaid for a year. It's a opportunity only some qualified people can take up. "No one is forced to apply for it", is very much not the point. If it is only training/education great, good for the club to involve themselves in that. If they're doing work we need doing, less so.

Yes, they are. I did mine at a large Aerospace manufacturer, it paid approx 50% of the starting graduate salary and was by far the worst paid of any of the placements in my group of friends. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

There is plenty of funding from the governement available for placement students who take part in unpaid work experience such as this. It's of a great benefit to those requiring that specific experience as part of their studies. It's not a barrier, it's an option so is looking at other opportunities if this doesn't suit them. This will be one where people will have different opinions on it, I get that. But imo it's not right for the club to be seen doing wrong when they aren't.

I work in Higher Education and I'm a trade union rep, and I can assure you there isn't "plenty of funding from the government" for anything, let alone living costs for work experience placements.

Part of my job is finding funding for certain requirements, so sorry, but you are wrong. [Post edited 14 May 2022 8:36]

I mean, part of my job is personal tutoring students looking for such opportunities, but whatever. If you can't be persuaded that employers routinely use internships in exploitative and exclusionary ways that's up to you. But the TUC's done a tonne of work on this stuff.

ITFC job - does this bother anyone else? on 13:27 - May 13 by The_Flashing_Smile | It's instead of being sat in lectures, where you wouldn't get paid either, and is excellent experience and good for the CV. I did similar in a PR firm while at uni and just got expenses (travel + food). If you start demanding a wage then these companies will, in many cases, withdraw the opportunity. This role will likely need some hand-holding, so not a massive benefit to the 'employer'. |
It's a job. In which your time has value and provides value to your employer.

It's not quite the same as a job. Otherwise it'd be called "a job" rather than "a placement." Anyway, I'm only playing Devil's Avocado - it would actually be nice if we bucked the trend and paid a decent wage to these people. It might actually attract a decent candidate who them goes onto work for the club proper!

It’s on the ‘job’ page so it’s clearly considered as such. This is a role working with key data about ‘assets’ potentially worth millions of pounds to the club. Just because various others seek to exploit people, there’s no reason why we should. If many other clubs are offering this role unpaid then we’ll get the best candidates (not the wealthiest) if we differ. The defence of the race to the bottom is really weak.

ITFC job - does this bother anyone else? on 22:38 - May 16 with 580 views | slaughteredskipper | This post made me look at, and enquire about, the head of education job. So thanks for the signpost. Currently an exec head and despite the exciting opportunity it might have been I just can’t return to being paid as pretty much a newly qualified teacher. Anyone got any advice for someone exploring getting out of education?

ITFC job - does this bother anyone else? on 11:40 - May 17 with 521 views | runaround | My cousins son does this exact role as part of his degree at Oxford United. If he gets a good enough degree he will get it full time so obviously it’s aimed at students
