Quite bizarre reaction from La Liga to Mbappe staying at PSG on 00:04 - May 22 with 1236 views | King_of_Portman_Rd | Messi had some similar clauses in his contract at Barca.. where he had input into managerial appointments and signings..so the hypocrisy is startling. In fact I’d wage that Ronaldo possibly had something not too dissimilar in his final contract at Madrid and La Liga is one of the most lopsided in terms of distribution of wealth as Barca and Madrid monopolise everything

Quite bizarre reaction from La Liga to Mbappe staying at PSG on 09:22 - May 22 with 989 views | jayessess | La Liga seems to take the view that the quality of players available to Barcelona and Real Madrid translates directly into revenue and relevance for the league as a whole. They reacted fairly similarly to Messi's transfer to PSG. They were also banking on Haaland going to Madrid. Since Barcelona's financial troubles started I imagine La Liga are very concerned about their league's diminishing status.

Doesn't the royal family fun Real Madrid too? Maybe some itchy fingers in the med.

I'm surprised they also didn't give him full autonomy over the lunch menu

Real Madrid is owned by the club's members, who elect the president. Florentino Perez, the President since 2009, was re-elected unopposed last time (you have to be a member and need a deposit of €60m, so there aren't that many eligible candidates). [Post edited 22 May 2022 9:47]

Surely their main gripe here is precisely this? Barcelona are subject to meaningful financial restrictions, related to their club revenue, where PSG are not.

The whole thing is very weird. We've also got Qatar in 6 months time to highlight the absolute madness that is football finances in the modern era. My Citeh mates have slowly become more and more hypocritical these days, they're basically everything they used to hate and then some.

It's just a dick measuring contest isn't it? Because there is no commercial argument for them keeping him there. With or without Mbappe they aren't going to win the Champions League and the league is virtually a formality for them (even though Lille did win it last year).

I think a big difference between the 2 clubs, Man City are basically now at a similar level to Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool re spending with wages around £350-400m a season In PSGs last accounts they were 4 times 2nd place in the league, and since then they’ve signed on ‘free transfers’ Buffon, Ramos, Wijnauldum, Messi and now there’s this deal. Very real chance that a league that has no eyes on it, is going to have a club who has a wage bill that is 50% more than the rest of the elite

And Madrid have let go off Ramos and sold Varane and Odegard to free up the cash to sign him this summer
