All just good fun right?

Or alternatively another player assaulted by moronic fans on the pitch:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61545115

The sooner a stop is put to this new found obsession with pitch invasions the better. One really shouldn't need to be on the pitch to enjoy both the match and the result.

Too many people acting like children and soon a player or official is going to get seriously hurt.

Whilst I agree there is a need to protect players and there have been a couple of nasty incidents (one of which was actually a player assaulting a fan), this is not really new found, is it?

Players mix with fans/ordinary people all the time and there should never be a problem with that wherever it is. With the plethora of modern video footage no one is going to get away with any sort of misbehaviour even if they are on the pitch. I think there has to be the right balance. Football is meant to be entertainment and winning the league/cup/promotion, etc really should be that.

There were fans on the pitch celebrating the winning goal in 1966 weren't there?

EDIT: Oh, and (a possibly belated) welcome back, Stokie, as I don't think I have seen you posting since you took a break from here.

Fans didn't behave like that in that era though. Different breed entirely.

I actually agree with Roy Keane (ffs) that it's a matter of time before some tw@t stabs a player.

Celebrating is fine, and expect some over- exuberance to go with it.

But when fans are thinking it's acceptable to attack players, something's gone wrong.

I completely agree with Keane fwiw. You do have to wonder if it's only a matter of time before something really bad happens.

Villa aren't making a complaint but police are still investigating, and City have said the fans responsible will receive a lifetime ban

Incorrect. The police have an open and ongoing investigation into the incident.

Facts have never really mattered to you though.

Pathetic posts like this just remind me why I decided to take a break in the first place. The desperation to excuse events and behaviour to ensure the Saturday afternoon bantz is playschool stuff.

Please please tell me you aren’t now going to bring up covid? Or are you now in a panic over monkey pox?

Why would one get into a panic about a hard-to-transmit, usually non-fatal virus?

Perhaps it's better to address the point that you said there was no investigation when there is an ongoing investigation and that you told me to "stop crying" when I was citing concern about the steady uptick in violence towards players and staff recently.

The only reasonable thing to infer from your comment is that you're not concerned about the recent behaviour of fans towards players and staff, a point on which we clearly differ.

Given we differ I'm not going to have an argument about it so enjoy your day.
