A concern expressed by Tories that Labour is setting their agenda begs the question... what next

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-sue-gray-latest-cos

After weeks of whining that any help would cause a greater rise in inflation (it hasn't done so in Europe as previously pointed out), Sunak this morning " insisted his £15bn cost-of-living support package will have only a “minimal” impact on inflation"

It was the same when the lie was being peddled that a levy would stop investment by the oil companies. That lie only stopped when it was stated,by an oil company chairman, that would not be the case,

However, we now have certain Tories whining that it is 'un-conservative' to be thought to be looking after all of its citizens. Nothing wrong with furlough for businesses, but 'handouts' to the poor are totally against what they stand for.

Still what is conservative is allowing those with second homes to get a double payment, and money for a third or even fourth.......

As with the latest shooting in the US, cap doffing righties over here will spout any nonsense (Mail front page) if it is seen as defending their betters. The fact those bleats are then (regularly) shown to be a lie does not seem to bother those said cap doffers.

So to answer the question posed. I would suggest you keep an eye on the NI protocol as despite all the huff and puff, and the bloaters little foot being stamped, nothing threatened will follow there.

A hapless government, stumbling from one crisis to another leaving a constant stream of failures in its wake.

Actually, something is going to happen regarding the NI protocol.

Last August the EU suggested a get-round for the UK.
It was green and red channels as we have in airports.
At NI ports there would be a Green channel for GB/NI freight and Red for GB/IE freight. The UK would have to allow the EU to share the database on freight movements to and from GB/NI.
The UK (Lord Frost) said it was unworkable.
Step forward Liz Truss. She's had this brilliant idea and she alone can solve the NI stalemate.
This brilliant idea is ..... go and read the bit above.

In my opinion the continual weight shaming is the only issue with Harry's posts and he's been asked by many who fully agree with his larger point to stop.

I have no idea why that advice has been ignored. It's a useful flaw in his largely accurate takes for those who don't have a solid argument against them which can be amplified and leaned on.

The constant use of the other two words also detract from his arguments too imo. Anyone who comments on a post not entirely in agreement are called “righties” even if they are obviously not espousing right wing views. Quite what the use of “betters” means I am not sure but hey ho.

I wouldn't expect to be on your list, but I would like to go for a drink with you. In that pub in Norwich where you are able to control the television, when the Scum are on Sky.

But my chuckling into my pint would probably give the game away.

He does have a point there though.

Often there are people who dive into fairly simple debates of right/wrong in relation to this government with whatteraboutery and deflection. Sometimes it's tacked onto "I agree there's a problem but..." which means anything said prior to BUT may as well not be said.

If one wants to "both sides" a corrupt government literally stealing from the public, doing business with criminals, encouraging hate speech and oppressing our rights - or combat the issues discussed with LOOK OVER THERE when it comes to the acting live government vs hypothetical Corbyn governments - they may as well go work for the Daily Mail at this point in present history.

Not to mention there are a lot of actual right wing people here (and even some posters who think they are centre/left) who don't actually want to admit they may be slipping behind the moving benchmark of progressive in the Blair era of politics when every day life for the majority was less shambolic or dangerous.

LET'S CLAP THE NHS AND THEN LARGELY SAY NOTHING WHEN THEY GET AN INSULTING PAY RISE TO AN ALREADY INSULTINGLY LOW SALARY is a prime example of the modern right winger who may not realise they have fell into all the obedient trappings to enable this crap.

Even worse, there are literal fascist bigots pushing a regression in human rights who still don't think they are bigots either. It's such a horrible thing to consider yourself guilty that even the bigots society largely agrees might as well wear a swatstika will say they've just got Very Real Concerns or are Telling It How It is.

Another factor here - Thatcher and Blair years drastically moved the scale of left wing from pro-union and public services to "the free market will handle it all" (spoiler, it won't - Thatcher/Reagan era free market capitalism was based on dated/disproven concepts of human behaviour, and the original research it was justified with was fudged with bias self-validation: https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevedenning/2013/06/26/the-origin-of-the-worlds-du

It's not going to get any better and all our opinions are largely immortalised online. Does anyone want to really think they'll look back and say "yeah, I really got it right defending this mess" or amplifying deflection from a right wing press that's gone off the deep end?

These are the debates we should be having around words, rather than defending the ego of people who get upset about being called a right wing whilst having no issue with the actual bigotry they partake in/ignore daily.

It's getting worse too, the level of casual homophobia I have encountered at football this season I have never seen before. Much of it isn't directly malicious, but using queerness as a derogatory term is well and truly a thing I felt the last decade had phased out somewhat. Even with more representation in the sport it's somehow gone backwards in terms of attitude.

Harry’s performing a public service. It’s easy to get bored with the continual ineptitude of this government and to get bored with pointing it out (I’m sure that’s what they bank on; normalise the sensational and it loses its impact).

It takes a special sort of obsessive to keep reminding us how irregular this government is.

I will only address one of your points because you have actually posted a real sermon which doesn’t comment on my point which was purely one of language. To say that there are people who do not believe they are right wing when in your opinion they are is just your opinion , which appears to be rather more extreme than most people would accept.

If you are largely concerned about being called a "rightie" and that's your biggest worry, combined with the fact I have completely addressed your point from several angles that are all highly relevant to your worry, then we are in the territory of ignorance or stupidity will that has made us slowly skip towards fascism.

That slip will continue and one day you'll wake up to realise all those things you never thought would affect you negatively are now a problem. And you'll also realise the people you cried about calling you a rightie were not the problem all along, in fact they tried to warn you.

FTR, I'm not even approaching this from what my opinion is or isn't on any individual and am speaking on a wider collective and generalised basis. Unless it's now subjective opinion that the far right are bigots?

I also find it mildly amusing you've complained Harry won't take the others seriously and writes off anyone who disagrees with him using the word "rightie", yet look at the last sentence of your post and weep. Why is it extreme? Come on, at least try to hold yourself to the same standard you demand Harry complies to. Be the change you wanna see in the world and all that.

I try my best but honestly, how does one deal with such levels of dunning kruger? How does one explain to those who scream to be heard and be taken seriously but sh1t the bed when given an inch of such respect?

No, what happened was - the youtube on my phone inexplicably controlled the TV, I only came to realise when I put Neil Young on my phone and he popped on the TV - so then I put the FA Cup final on followed by The Demolition Derby when Mathie ran riot.

I wonder if that thread is still available.

I'd be very happy to next time I'm in Norwich- it's a great city to be out and about in. We took some Belgian friends there for a weekend- they were gobsmacked that there was a Belgian pub!

Shame about the football team, obviously...

I live in Scotland now, so will be a rare occurrence, but have some family who have recently moved to North Norfolk, so who knows?

I'm not talking about you being a rightie, I'm talking about the fact you'd raise language as your main concern. And even then I tried to explain how your concerns with language are arguably flawed and nuanced.
