Ferry to Ireland 14:02 - Jun 8 with 2673 views | clive_baker | Has anyone ever travelled to Ireland via Ferry? I know there's a route off the west coast of Wales but that's a trek from Suffolk innit. Are there any others that people would recommend? Been over to Ireland many times but always flown, and quite fancy the car over this time so we're a bit more independent and don't have to fanny about hiring one. Any thoughts?

Fab, thanks. 4 hours to Liverpool or 6 to Fishguard looks like the decision then. Or split the difference and 5 to Holyhead. It doesn't really matter where in Ireland I go to as I need to be in the North for a bit, Galway for a bit and down west of Cork for a bit seeing family, so I can plan the route accordingly.

That does tempt me, see a little bit of West Wales while I'm at it. I've been to Cardigan before and drove down that west coast from Aberystwyth at it was stunning. Also got friends down in deepest darkest SW Wales who I could pop in and see. Just wondered if I was missing any routes / options. I'm going for 11 days in total, will be working from home out there and seeing family etc. It's quite late notice and the car hire alone was £1,500 from Shannon airport for anything bigger than a Ford Ka. Didn't even get as far as adding insurance, 2nd driver, car seat etc which they normally mug you for. Plus flights are like c. £250. And airport parking this end etc. A return car ferry ticket is £350 and can take my own wheels. [Post edited 8 Jun 2022 14:26]

That's the other option. Or maybe fly to Wales and then catch a ferry.

Car hire is really expensive at the moment. Had car issues the other week an tried to hire one. Very few available and those that we're available were very expensive. Ended up borrowing a car from a friend. Don't think yer missing any serious routes. Actually if you get ferry to Belfast and head to West Coast from there via Enniskillen you will pass my house just after you cross the border

At least it wasn't the picture of a Guinness that left you fancying a nun...

I've lived in Ireland for over 20 years and absolutely love Irish culture but I have to confess that I still find nuns very very creepy.

Ferry to Ireland on 20:08 - Jun 8 with 1155 views | WeWereZombies | There is also Pembroke Dock to Rosslare by Irish Ferries, I did that overnight once, they turn the heating in the lounge off and everyone curls up on the seats to reduce the amount of area through which warmth can be lost.
