Turned down the Town job ahead of Bobby Robson's appointment. Stayed at Plymouth instead.

Sorry to hear he is dead but wont forgive him for his incitement of the crowd before and during this game.

Wow. How different our history would have been if he had taken the job. No Bobby Robson at ITFC seems unthinkable.

And I believe Frank O'Farrell also turned down Ipswich at the time. Given we had the smallest gates in division 1 except for Burnley & very little money, Town were seen as perpetual relegation battlers and not an attractive option.

It just highlights that by far the most important person at a football club is the manager. You can have the best (or maybe even the worst) infrastructure, but the manager’s talent will make or break a club’s success on the pitch over the long term.

And Robson certainly wasn't popular in his first 2 and a half seasons, as Town struggled to score goals & continued to battle relegation.
