Derby County - in simple terms 11:35 - Jun 13 with 4217 viewsitfc_bucks

Are we genuinely looking that they're likely to be ejected from the league?

Am I right in thinking that a Mike Ashley shaped swoop is pretty much the only game left in town for the club?

Good time to be a Forest fan, or would they rather Derby stayed afloat and competitive?

Edit - re: your question, I have no idea.

It's Ashley or bust in reality.

But Morris still a roadblock with the stadium.

Which is why were not a particularly attractive option to such speculators - we don't own the freehold on PR and we're unlikely to anytime soon.

Squeeky bum time for County then, I guess.

Can't ever see the stadium issue being sorted to be honest. I think it's game over for them, to be honest.

It's certainly not looking good for them. Re-form in The National League North or something probably as Derby United

No way they go bust, but longer it drags on the more likely they are to start the season with a youth team (and potentially a points deduction)

I doubt it, they have two more options. One of which could well pass the ownership test... somehow (Ashley)

I really hope not.

They will be fine, too big a club to simply vanish.

Which would be fantastic for us.

Really hope they survive but a painful few seasons of battling relegation or even a slide into league two would be great.

At this point DCFC could well end up in exactly the same position in two seasons regardless of folding. Slide down into L2 because of sanctions and no players, or start again in the VNC as a new club and get promoted.

They will be fine. As a very important club (in the top 20 to 25, I’d have thought), Derby will be protected come what may. If there’s any tax impact I know from people who do such work that any arrangement will be accepted.

I don’t think Ashley is that bad an option. I know he was hated by Newcastle supporters, but they were in the PL at the time of the takeover, have good facilities and are now one of the richest clubs in the world. Interestingly, they seemed to have more of a problem with Ashley than they do the head choppers that now own them. Oh well.

It was all about taking back control for NUFC... or something.

Yes, I think the Council owning the freehold actually protects us long term in a way that owning it ourselves would not. Our current owners may well be benign, but no club is immune to a takeover by an entity that relies too much on debt, and mortgaging the ground to the hilt potentially allows it to fall into the hands of the lenders. Having a lease means we have sufficient security of tenure under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 (unless the council wants to redevelop the ground, which they would be insane to want to try in a town the size of Ipswich where councillors could be ripped from office just by the ITFC fanbase), and if the club were ever to go under, it would seem likely that any new entity would end up with a new lease from the Council.

As for Derby, I don't think any of us really knows enough about their potential suitors, but if those options are exhausted, then it is looking exceptionally bleak for them. They are so big that failing would have terrible consequences, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Some might argue that a wake up call is necessary, but I prefer to try to put myself in their fans' position. In any event, Derby going bust ain't gonna stop top six prem teams throwing around billions.

It could be viewed as the original club either way, just a new company - trading as Derby Co still.
Take the example of Rangers, technically a new club now following admin and relegation, but their fans don't see it that way.

Agreed but they get plenty of stick from other fans for it so if a team is going to end up in the same place it might as well be the original club.

Getting stick is part and parcel of supporting a club. I really don't think it would matter once parity is restored.

Morris seems to be playing dog in the manger with the ground, rather like Ken Booth did with Millmoor. Rotherham used a different stadium for a few years before their new stadium was ready. Something similar could happen here.
