I'm not sure why it's so hard to believe Umbro would be excited by a partnership with us.
What division a team in is great and all that for brand visibility, but the base requirement will be sales and monitisation.
In terms of shirt sales, I'd imagine we are consistently in the top 20-25 teams in England. Then you have the fact that Umbro have maybe 1-3 teams that are above us in that list. West Ham will outsell us but then even their other higher clubs, Luton, Brentford, Huddersfield will all sell less shirts that we do.
Then add in a global superstar which will be massive for their brand awareness, plus the backing we have and the not unrealistic idea that in a year or two we could be their second or third biggest team in the UK both in status and shirt sales and it's a big deal all round for them.
Yes we are a third division team. But let's not pretend we are an average side there. We have lower Premier League levels of shirt sales and when Umbro only have a couple of Premier League teams, one of whom sell less than us (Brentford) then it's not as if it's Adidas supplying Woking through a third party. | | | |

Think it’s part of the Marcus Evans hangover that still circles the club. A lot of people have accepted the decline under him and now think of us a little third tier club.

I think this season will be a turning point. The fans are really engaged and signs are that we're looking at one of the best season ticket buy-ins for a very long time, so merch sales could be pretty big too - although the current situation with Energy, fuel, food and service costs rising could scuppper that a bit.
That said, the pressure is on to perform this year as I don't see the current level of fan engagement persisting if we land another sub-playoff finish. | |
