Actually 18 months, and I suspect he has got wind of what is likely to come out during the Privileges committee investigation.

"The adviser said this week it was “reasonable” to conclude the prime minister had breached the ministerial code over Covid-19 lockdown parties."

Nit the best of ideas to be in the same room when the sht hits the fan

Meanwhile

"Boris Johnson’s new “cost of living tsar” called for him to quit No 10 over Partygate and suggested he lacks intelligence. David Buttress, a former head of the Just Eat online food delivery service, tore into the prime minister’s failings on Twitter.

“Never confuse an expensive education with intelligence or integrity,” he tweeted.

“I don’t think Boris is particularly blessed with either, imagine if he had not had the many privileges he has experienced. Does anyone believe he would be PM on merit? Not a chance, mate.”

Later that month, Mr Buttress also posted: “Why is it that the worst people often rise to the highest office and stay there!?”

And he added: “Boris has to go, he just has to. You can’t survive judgment like this.”

And, in October 2021, he tweeted: “Immigration is a driver of productivity growth. Boris once again, gambling and being fast and loose with the UK economy and the impact on the most vulnerable.”

It says so much about the people who rise to the top that they need an ethics advisor.

How the hell is that an actual job working for the Prime Minister?

Truly impaired.

To be fair, a job as complex as running the country will have a lot of situations where the ethics are by no means clear cut.

For example, do you allow a nationally vital infrastructure project (say, battery facilities for storing green energy) to go ahead when it would destroy people's homes and environmentally sensitive sites? Or the tricky lawmaking task of balancing freedom of expression against hate speech when it comes to highly divisive issues (like transgender rights, or the way to go in Northern Ireland). With the intensity of the job, there isn't time to sit down and ponder such choices yourself.

So having an advisor to help with the task does actually make sense.

Judging by the number of casual encounters resulting in births, allegedly, I doubt whether Johnson will be writing a book on safesex...

Priti Patel thought an ethics adviser was someone who worked at Citizens Advice Bureau in Dagenham.

Quite amusing, but some may not be so keen of your taking the pish out of someone with a speech impediment. I liked it though.
