I think Norwood probably was for this division. Certainly Morsy was last year, Walton too I think although the loan then permanent thing reduced the impact.
Before that, I think a case can be made for Leadbitter (first few months he was excellent, before being moved around to accommodate Norrris and then Jewell's old lags) and maybe Chopra.
David Johnson (II) definitely was too, not as much as Marcus but much more so than Marshall was.

Jewell's old lags - such as Jimmy Bullard? After the loan Jimmy Bullard, that permanent signing certainly seemed a good one...

I just wasn't wowed by the Norwood signing, Morsy and Walton were certainly eyebrow raisers, but I'm thinking more along the lines of how did we manage that!
Steve Sedgley for some reason rings that bell, but then that might have been an age thing, when you're younger you are more enthusiastic, maybe the grumpy old git in me just can't get as enthused as I once did!

Ian Marshall had a decent scoring record at Oldham. I remember being excited, awesome mullet who scored for fun.

Luciano Civelli excited me. Chopra I thought we'd be a major signing. Berra excited me.
I also think people forget the excitement surrounding us getting Norwood.

Hmmm, Bullard permanently always felt like a panic signing after conceding 12 against Southampton and Peterborough. Given we had signed Andrews and Bowyer there were obvious problems in playing them all.
At the time, I thought signing Mark Venus was out of this world. John Scales was definitely on another level. More recently I thought Tommy Smith would be the second coming.

I'm not suggesting it wasn't seen as a good signing, more that the term marquee signing should mean one that other teams in the division would look at and take note.
