New home 'keeper shirt on 10:03 - Jun 25 with 1403 views | Sharkey | Why do goalkeepers wear short-sleeved shirts? Is it to show off their tattoos? ( I'd have thought the padding on the sleeves would be useful.) Was it Barthez who was the first to wear a short-sleeved one? (I have an idea that it was against the rules at the time, --the reasoning being that long sleeves helped the ref identify who'd just punched the ball in a crowded penalty area.) But I could be wrong.)

Perhaps a comfort/freedom of movement thing?

Perhaps. I just did a bit of googling and read that Buffon said he had short sleeves simply so he could look like his team-mates.

I thought we'd abolished freedom of movement. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

New home 'keeper shirt on 19:20 - Jun 24 by Zx1988 | Yes, that's it isn't it. Can't say I'm a fan of the 'yoke' design - I'd rather it were a proper 'jazzy' GK shirt with the pattern all over it. This design just looks as if it's being downloaded over a dodgy dial-up connection! [Post edited 24 Jun 2022 19:28]

I used to like it when every keeper wore plain green*** apart from the current England first choice who proudly wore yellow But then again I am 1000 years old. ****except David Best who was such a crazy man he wore red. [Post edited 26 Jun 2022 11:02]

I agree. Bring back keepers wearing a plain green shirt with the same shorts and socks as were being worn by the outfield players. And whilst we're at it, bring back dogs on the pitch!
