Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! 08:29 - Jun 25 with 1568 views | unstableblue | We all know it’s a long old slog this league… but Wigan and Rotherham set the pace, kept pace, pulled away and had enough to take them over the line. I feel a Barnsley, a Peterborough, a Bolton, hell even a Sheff Weds could do that… and we all really really hope Town can finish in the top two Last season’s slow start, to teams we really really should have beaten, crippled us, and I just think we need to come out of the blocks this season…. It’s a tough start… but this squad is gelled, this manager settled, necessary signings are being made but without key combinations and spines unbroken - Walton… Wolf… Morsy… Donacien… burns… Can we limp through august with only limited points and build momentum still?? (Also if we came out of the blocks, you might see an unstoppable momentum build, with 25k home attendances every week)

Absolutely BB! We looked didn’t look a complete mess in those first games… but you are right the manager didn’t seem fully competent Draw with Morecombe, loss at Burton, loss at Cheltenham, draw home to MK, draw at home with dons, then humiliation at the hands of Bolton I’d forgotten just how bad it was… We can’t afford that. Morsy from the start will be huge. The team is gelled the manager settled… and clearly he’s focussing on a more dynamic and physical attack… we need goals One more player needed in that attack. No excuses now, no slow start

Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 08:50 - Jun 25 with 1474 views | Steve_M | We don’t concede many goals and won’t lose many matches under McK, that puts us well ahead of last season. There are still questions as to whether we bag score enough goals but I think that’ll be ok too.

Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 08:51 - Jun 25 with 1458 views | Churchman | Last season in the first 6 games, Wigan collected 13 points, Rotherham 9, Sunderland 15 from 18. We picked up a measly 3 (three). Do that and your chances of finishing in the top 6 are remote at best. You have to make a good start, or at worse a reasonable one. We played well enough, but the Achilles heel was we just didn’t score enough goals, so most teams knew they were in the game right up to the 90th minute. Have we resolved this? Not convinced yet, but there’s a long way to go to the start of the season and the close of the transfer window. There will also be a proper pre season and time for KM to set the team up the way he wants it.
Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 09:05 - Jun 25 with 1411 views | Romeo4 | I think a fast start is vital this season. We need to build early momentum. We’ve had such a long period of underachieving that another slow start could easily snowball into a really negative situation. No reason why we can’t start quickly. A good win against Bolton and we will be up and running.

A big positive is that, unlike in previous seasons, we have done what should be most of our transfer business early, rather than bringing in players seemingly as afterthoughts, although the window doesn't actually close until 1st September.

We can't deviate too far from that. Teams that win divisions are relentless and that is what we need to be. As Steve says above, we won't lose many games under McKenna and we have a really strong base and spine now going into the new season.

Of course, sorting the business out early means more time in training before matchday 1 for the new players and a better chance of them slotting right into the team without issue. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 11:41 - Jun 25 with 1077 views | BigCommon | Dear God, please lets not have a slow start.. It's not just the points that need clawing back. It's moral, momentum , belief from fans and players alike...Solid start, with good performances and some early rhythm and new players looking like they fit in ,is what I want to see.. Get some points in the bag, and keep on keeping on..

Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 13:44 - Jun 25 with 969 views | monty_radio | Points in the bag while everyone is fit and firing are points that don't necessarily have to be gathered against the odds of, say, a long term injury to Burns and/or Wolfie. Or on a grim Tuesday night away at Bristol Rovers next February.

Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 14:08 - Jun 25 with 917 views | Bluearmy71 | There is no reason or excuse to make this season as we had last, yes last season took us all by surprise with the start but 19 new players it was never gonna be be all peachy when most players were relative strangers to one another, the season the nucellus of the squad is there and with some signings of the pedigree KMc can possibly bring in to sure up things where needed and given the fact KMc is a completely different manager and evidently more competent than Cook I think it safe to say that last seasons start was a complete one off and for more reasons than just 19 new players!! Unstableblue, I feel a river of optimism and positivity wanting to burst out from underneath your trepidation of other teams, don't worry about them, just open up the flood banks on that river and let it flow and just worry about us
Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 17:26 - Jun 25 with 754 views | C_HealyIsAPleasure | Depends by what is meant by a slow start really Pick up 3 from the first 6 like last season and we’ll be bang in trouble. Not just because it leaves a lot of ground to make up, but also because if we start like that there aren’t any obvious excuses - so chances are we won’t suddenly become a good enough side to then pick up 90-odd points from the remaining 40 games However picking up 8/9/10 points will be fine, not great but enough to be in the mix and able to kick on if we start to put a run together

Do you think we can handle yet another slow start to the season?! on 17:36 - Jun 25 with 733 views | FrimleyBlue | Win the home games. Draw the away before increasing it to winning consecutive games... We just can't start with home draws. No matter how much effort we put in, wins are the only option Imo. Start with a win v Bolton and already that's 3 points ahead of a potential promotion rival.

You can't win anything in the first half a dozen games but you can certainly lose it. We don't want to be 6+ points off the pace before August has even finished.

This is so so true, I really cannot handle another 'next season' from us. Does feel very sh1t or bust this year. As another poster said, a poor start could turn into a negative backlash and then I don't really know where we go from there. Feels like a huge season.
