Used cars. on 10:33 - Jul 2 by ZXBlue | That 17k, after vat, is about 14k. Plus a service and mot and any modest discount / deal to the next buyer. Less overheads. Not a lot of meat in it for the dealer at all tbh. |
The Vat would be max of £800. Only charged on the profit made by the dealer.

Used cars. on 10:45 - Jul 2 by suffolkpoker | Not all vehicles are VAT registered. They will only pay VAT on there profit of the sale. Service and MOT would be under £100 cost for a garage / dealership. That’s a huge mark up even for main dealer |
A small trader would not be. A large dealer will be vat registered. You are right about the profit thing though- that is not something I was aware of. Not sure why car dealers get to use such a generous scheme! Realistically any sale will involve a deal though. So maybe 16k? VAt on profit would be 800, then overheads, and tax on the profit.
