To be fair, this is the extreme of a range of possible models. The fact it is a possibility should raise alarm bells. However, I wonder what the actual probability is. I am certainly hoping it turns out to be much lower. We do not have sufficient air conditioning or provision to cope with this. It would lead to significant loss of life I would imagine.

Evening here in the swamps of Florida and my lounge wall stat shows 94f!! OK, haven't run my a/c all day,( been out,) and now back home with my ceiling fan full pelt and patio doors wide open. Yesterday I was helping out at a fellow Brits home who earlier this year converted part of their house into long term rental (single lady) and the electric bill is $420... for one month, that's $5,000 a year!!!

I am willing to bet the top 7 inches of my knob that it won't get to 44°c in the UK in the next week. Not so sure I'd put the same bet on in 10 years time.

There are pumps you can buy to increase your shortage of inches old fruit.
There is a distinct lack of regular, steady, precipitation in these parts which is also a a bit of concern for me as well as the longer periods of higher temperatures we are now seeing. Rainfall is heavier and in shorter bursts when it comes and ultimately runs off as opposed to filtering into the ground. Predicting that fairly early leaf fall/autumn like conditions to plant life will occur this year.
We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub.

This guy is the leading amateur weather forecaster. It's absolutely frightening if this weather model is correct. 43 degrees for East anglia next Sunday, but he doubts it will happen with this extremity. Hot yes....

The BBC weather dudes are showing up to 31c (about 92f in real money) next weekend. That’s warm. Fine if you are under a brolly sitting in a beach bar with a good book in Gran Canaria, not so good here.
Weather is so unpredictable here, thanks to a maritime climate/Gulf Stream. Long May it stay so. Interestingly London is on the same degree of latitude as Moscow.

Well this could get interesting!
Edit....just so you know, Junior, Miss and Grandma Slave are now discussing your appendage.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
Do we reckon if these temps reach or even come close to these forecasts that the Wimbledon friendly could be in any doubt? Just in these days of player safety and all that.. always seems hotter in the big smoke as well

I skimmed it earlier and I think the more extreme model runs of yesterday are falling away a bit. Still likely to be very hot though. Remember that the model runs quoted are not forecasts but represent a range of possible outcomes. As we get closer to the day the uncertainties diminish, the model runs tend to get closer together and you can start to talk in terms of an actual forecast.

Although the Country file week ahead forecast strongly hinting that the record of 38.7 degrees is under threat.

I had to watch that with the sound off, and as a result I didn't understand it.
