Ed Sheeran - stupid question time 18:39 - Jul 28 with 2007 viewsSE1blue

If we are already promoted etc. could we actually put him in a match day squad and have him come on for a pen or something in the last five.

Or is this totally just a gimmick and he can’t actually be allowed on to play?

We would have to have him as a registered player with the EFL. Given the limited squad sizes that's just not feasible.

Yes I think he would be allowed but unless the other team had nothing to play for I think would be inappropriate. Even in that scenario I can't see it happening. He is a registered player though so technically yes.

He'd have to be named in the squad of players aged over 21, which would be a bit of a waste. Could play in one of the cups though, assuming he'd been registered as a player.

I think the point of him having a squad number is to sell shirts, There is no chance of him ever coming on, even in the circumstances that you describe. He's away most of the time anyway.

It’s not a comedy club. It’s a commercial decision to give him a squad number - no more than that.

Not registered with EFL either.

Think his insurance might have something to say about that.

Also it would be so tinpot, like giving a competition winner a game. Hate the idea of it.

I was really just asking a question that I didn't know the answer too. No over-thinking involved here.

Does that count for reserves? Under the old system,
Louis Tomlinson from One Direction played for Doncaster Rovers reserves. They signed him as a non-contract development player, which allowed him to play in the reserves.

If that rule still counts, I could imagine a day at PR with a reserve game and a women's game, maybe raise some money for the Foundation.

Given we’re going to romp the league anyway, I’d happily take the hit on a place so he could make a sub appearance in the last home game. It just means we’d have to settle for #96points96goals instead of the round hundred. Def info.

It would be very funny if it happened.

He *might* play in a Testimonial at Portman Road one day, but there is no way on earth that he would play in a competitive match, even for 5 minutes.

He could play in the U23s as an overage player with no problem.

If we're 25 points clear at the end of January we might as well register him then and give him a few games for the media coverage.

If we were getting crowds of 10,000 then it might be a worthwhile stunt in the pizza cup when not sure it's worth damaging the brand/club when we're getting 25,000 in division 3 without resorting to this.

Truly impaired.

25 points! It’s negative aspirations like that which have been holding us back!

I can see it now, we’re 4-0 up in the Pizza Cup final, Ed Sheeran comes on to replace Morsy and then lifts the trophy.

They’ll need to hand out those special glasses we had for the solar eclipse if he takes his shirt off for a goal celebration on a sunny day.

Was he a registered actor? No, no he wasn't.
