When the striker signs 12:17 - Aug 3 with 3206 viewsGarv

Whether it's Hirst* or not, are we assuming Jackson will be the one to drop out the squad?
We already have Edwards and KVY missing out on squads.

I still can't help thinking it was an odd decision to keep Jackson, despite his brief spell of form last season.

Jackson is different to any other strikers that we have. He stretches defences, leaving space for others and defences cant leave him alone because of his pace. Also good on the break. I can see why KMCK kept him - dont think he'll be a regular starter, but a good option to have.

Think Jackson will be used for specific games, either from the bench or as a starter when they want his ability to run the channels.

His pace on Saturday when he came on clearly put the Bolton defence, who I thought were very good, under a lot more pressure.

McKenna will continue to pick specific forward set ups to target specific opponent weaknesses IMO

No idea who we are going to leave out. I think Jackson will be used more than we think and people will change their opinions of him.

7 subs and we're still struggling to fit everyone in. Insane.

KM obviously rates Jackson. He'll be playing a fair bit of football this season.

Jackson was good when he came on in the last match.

The Jackson narrative is bizarre to me.

I think Jackson will be used a lot.

Maybe just easing him in after his longterm injury.

When you say good, what exactly did he do in your eyes that was good?

I saw two direct runs into the defender, and chased down the keeper.

Nothing more, nothing less.

I’m with you on Jackson but we seem to be in the minority.

Just don’t think he’s got much ability but his constant gesturing during the game infuriates me more than anything. Seriously watch him, it’s all thumbs up, pointing etc as if he thinks the camera is on him. Reminds me of Lee Nelson as Jason Bent. Bizarrely I also don’t like somebody openly supporting another team whilst playing here — he’s always on social media with Liverpool stuff.

KM and co know much better than me obviously, and clearly clubs at higher levels have shown interest so I must be wrong, and hope he proves me wrong of course.

Crossed for a couple of very good chances didn't he?

We need more than 18 players this season. Jackson will be in the 18 far more often than not and will start games I am sure (availability permitting).

Put a good cross in for TJJ who didn't quite get in front of his man to take the chance.

For the Morsy chance his pace dragged their CBs towards the goal which opened up all the space behind for Morsy to run into.

Put a really solid Bolton defence under pressure anytime they were on the ball and helped win back possession when they hoiked it forward

I don’t know that KJ will score lots of goals (we’ve not seen that this far) but you can see the value, he has characteristics and is presumably a good person to have around. Whether as starter goal scorer or contributor or chasing down second half tiring defences to maintain our high press then creating.

A year ago I would have said release and move on but KMcK rates him!

I was just going to say..........................maybe the OP has hit the nail on the head. We aren't signing another one as we already have 2 on the bench!

Depends how KM sees this John Jules and Jackson. Are they going to be the focal striker, or options out wide?

If everyone's fit maybe. But we're not going to have all 4 strikers available every week, are we?

Absolutely. We also have 7 games in August. With the intensity that McK expects our forwards to play at we'll need some rotation to keep everyone at 100%

My personal opinion is that KJ will be used loads from the bench. Now we can use 8000 subs, he'll be lobbed at knackered defences with a view to causing chaos.

As it is lunchtime...

Just rewatched game from 70 mins (when Jackson came on) nice and easy to watch what he's doing as he's the only town player with orange boots.

I've just counted 14 moments that he's done everything right and 2 moments where he didn't.

On 84 and 90, he was in the right place to receive a pass from JJ and Burns but didn't get it, on 85, JJ didn't get it right from Jackson to make more of a chance, on 70,71, 72, 74 and 75 he's pressed Santos or the keeper (keeper nearly messed it up too).

I wasn't a fan, but credit where it's due, he did a good job on Saturday.

Isn’t that why KM uses him though? Imagine facing someone with his pace after 70 mins intensity in 26 degree heat. He’s there to stretch defences. Admittedly his end product isn’t earth shattering unfortunately.

Jackson was better in his brief spell at the end of last season, but he has been poor overall.

Very fortunate to get a new deal, IMO. However. as a Town fan I sincerely hope he kicks on now and is a big success for us.

He's been no worse than any of our other forwards whilst generally being played out of position and expected to provide for others.

You just said he was better at the end of last season when playing under McKenna so why is it fortunate McKenna offered him a new deal?

I think he is fortunate to get a deal off the back of his time at Ipswich, which has been poor. 4 or 5 half decent games ensured he was offered a new one, not the last few years.

As I say, I pray he does great for us moving forward.

He was also good alongside Norwood until Lambo went full tilt and Cook froze him out.
