...how good was he when you look back?

I seem to remember a very energetic midfielder with a cracking shot.

But it's a longtime ago and maybe someone a little older than me might have clearer memories?

From what I remember he was very much like Steven Gerrard going forward - but that is where the similarity ends.

Decent player, quite industrious, don't have a great deal of respect for him on a personal level.

I believe I remember him basically hitting the corner flag with a penalty?

It was a long time ago though.

I remember him as a good, quite elegant midfielder. He could hit a pass and had a good shot on him. Like a lot of players of that period, he was following the great players which was a tough act to follow.

Brennan made 168 odd appearances for us, 19 goals. Good player.

Remember him hitting the post from distance at Brighton before Jocky popped the rebound in. Good player.

I think it was Brennan that scored the winner from the half way line at Bristol Rovers in an FA Cup game in 1985. The ball cannoned off his shins on a freezing cold day.

Eastville was a mess having been partially burnt down and the large portaloo had steam coming out of both ends. It was also awash and with people rocking it up and down the waves were lapping.

Happy memories.

The holder of the worst ever penalty at Portman Road, also my first game.

Liked a drink by all accounts. Him and Dozzell were sent home after breaking a curfew with the england u21s. Decent career at Boro, Man City and Oldham (for whom he scored against us in the inaugural Premier league season).

It was more like a conversion attempt in Rugby - rather than massively wide. Wasn't that in a big game like v Man Utd?

Well watching it again it was just a really, really rubbish penalty.

As a youngster it seemed like he hit the corner flag.

How good were the old town sides.

We even took the best of the worse penalties ever :)

He was indeed elegant and played well for us at a young age. But after a couple of good years at Middlesbrough his career really tailed off. I liked watching him, but, like some others who came through after the glory years, he never seemed to me quite to fulfill the obvious talent he possessed.

As our super Team of 81 fell apart, Brennan was pretty much my favourite player for a spell. Classy, lovely striker of the ball. Lovely haircut.
