1999/2000 Play off final 08:06 - Aug 10 with 1346 viewsMeatball

Does anyone remember what the ticket requirements where for gaining access to buy the final tickets? I was a blues Cruise member so I had to part exchange serval tickets to be able to get them. I believe it was around 8/10 games you had to go to? Anyone confrim this or know what games met the requirements.

I queued from the early hours with several mates. Radio Suffolk were broadcasting live - seem to remember a really short blonde reporter going up and down the long queue interviewing people.

I was listening to it as someone in the queue had it on - one of the stories was that a family were queuing overnight and a ‘lady of the night’ asked them if they wanted business, but then saw the kids and ran off.

Queuing seems odd now - these days you simply press the refresh on a computer.

I rather doubt there will be a problem getting tickets. Sunderland were given an initial allocation of 37,000 tickets for the play-off final which was increased to 43,000. I think the allocation was pretty high in 2000 because a couple of friends who hadn't been to any games were able to get tickets.

Think it was something like 4 ticket stubs, annoyingly a mate who used to come to nearly every game but didn't have a season ticket was able to get 4-5 tickets for his family opposed to me who went every game but couldn't!

I remember frantically trying to gather enough ticket stubs together to go. Seem to recall that there were tables laid out in the gym for processing the tickets at the time.

I queued from about 5pm the previous night. Woefully under prepared. Sat on the pavement opposite the Bus Depot and got little sleep if any.

Was worth it though.

One of the great days following previous years of play off heartache.

I think first priority was 8 stubs, second was 4.

I remember stressing because I donated 4 of my 8 to my brother so we could both get a ticket, but they seemed to be selling so fast I thought we might both miss out!

Cant quite remember. I had a few stubs from going to home games that season (wasnt a ST holder then). I do remember spending night in a sleeping bag (along with many others) outside PR to get tickets when the ticket office opened that morning!

Was a good laugh actually.

Can't remember, but had a good time in the queue chatting to a couple who we bumped into again at Milan Cathedral 18 months later.

Living 200+ miles from Ipswich, managed to get a ticket sitting together with a friend (another ITFC fan who lived in Huddersfield - hi Patrick if you're reading this!) without either of us going down to Suffolk. We both had a few away ticket histories & I think (but can't be sure) silver memberships.

Probably done via phone (landline) & post, as I don't think online booking/shopping was much of a thing for us at the time.

as well as ticket stubs, i think there was also priority for people who had queued up / qualified as priority for the bolton game.

after queuing up for the bolton game (with enough stubs) i think i remember getting a voucher together with my bolton ticket that qualified me for 1 final ticket. not sure though...

I was at uni at the time and sent my stubs off by post with a request for a ticket.

These days they will know how many tickets you've bought in the season, so I am sure if you have bought at least four or are silver member there won't be a problem. The following link shows how Nottingham Forest did it for the 36,000 tickets they were allocated for the play-off final.
