There's a lot of conflicting rumours about 'a done deal', 'loans to Championship sides', 'Rodgers job being about to end' etc.

It starts to feel like Celina part 2.

We hopefully won't get burned twice in one window, and potentially (ideally) have an alternative.

But who is he?

For what it’s worth I don’t think we got burned by Celina

We made an offer, someone made a higher one, he went to them

I don't mean he personally did anything wrong, I mean burned in the sense that we clearly put a lot of time and effort in attempting to make it happen and ultimately that time was wasted.

It's possible, but I think it isn't probable.

Didn’t Hirst just play half a season?

Or am I wrong?

I know Bonne only played half a season, but he was here all year.

We have absolutely no idea what’s happening on the Hirst front.

Hirst - 40 appearances for Pompy

Bonne - 43 appearances for Town

so wiki says....

Wouldn’t be amazed to see us get both tbh. Hirst perm and Bonne loan

The striker(s) look to be at least Championship quality or I would have thought they would be in by now. They’re either players at Championship clubs or, like Hirst, Prem players who are likely to end up there.

I really hope we don’t need to wait another 2 or 3 weeks to get a striker or two in, but that seems likely to happen now.

There’s always the loan window I guess if Hirst is still there in September…

I might be wrong, but the loan window doesn’t exist any more.

When do Prem teams have to name theirs squads? Do they still have to do that?

If so, perhaps we are waiting to see if we can get a loan striker from one of them.

Well we haven’t had a transfer post from you in at least ooooh 24 hours!

Sometimes you really should just let the crap go around in your head rather than feel like you have to spew it out on this forum, better still get some RL mates you can talk to about it

One of two things is going to happen with this story

1) It's already been done and we're waiting for the domino effect in the transfer window with Leicester holding the aces

or

2) We've moved on and chasing another target

Poll: If it were one or the other

No one is getting burnt.

You are either successful with your target or you move on to targets that are available with all the constraints, Eg seller, competition, price, player and agent willingness, etc.

I’m in the camp that thinks Hirst will get done.

Is he the silver bullet for promotion, I’m not sure, he’s 23 and I have not seen any of his work. He’s certainly the type of player we should be after with KMcK cv for developing talent and Ma cv for achieving sale value, but someone like Bonne might be more beneficial at this stage of our promotion build.

Whichever way this goes, it now feels like it’s going to the end of the window on Sept 1.

I think if all we were looking for was a silver bullet for this season, I'm sure we would be able to find a cheaper and better option than Hirst.

You go down the top 10 goalscorers in L1 for last season and there aren't a lot of young players. The average age is 28.6 and the only player younger than Hirst on the list was Scott Twine. In terms of probabilities, you'd be more likely to get a solid return from Sam Vokes and he'd be a heck of a lot cheaper.

Hirst's fee would be based on him contributing for the whole 4 years we'd contract him for.

Off to a flyer this season, 3 appearances, 0 goals.

EXACTLY what we need, another non-scoring forward.

As we're in League One, I think it's unlikely we'll attract someone with a markedly better goalscoring record than Bonne.

I don’t think we will sign either of them. We don’t seem to do long drawn out sagas with Ashton so I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody totally different is signed that they’re quietly working on

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.
