If he said we weren’t threatening from corners then he’s absolutely right.

Pretty much word for word what he said…. To which some idiot took a disliking and called in accusing Mick of being far too negative all the time and never being happy.

Granted MM might not be dancing on the ceiling at all times, but still! MM then compared the caller to Shambert which put him in his place.

You mean "he's" As in "he is." The apostrophe is used as it's a contraction and a letter is removed.
"His," means something belonging to him, so in the context that you have used it, it makes no sense at all.
As a youngster, and therefore someone who never reads anything, you've probably heard people say "he's" and assumed they said "his." It's an easy mistake for an illiterate person to make.
I'm not judging. I'm just correcting.

He's right though, though they excite the crowd corners are overated.

European top divisions, since year 2000.

Only 16% result in an attempt on goal
Just 7% result in a shot on target

Yes, free kicks, but not corners. The stats really don't lie, corners don't produce goals, as much as people expect.

The point was if we're not winning corners it's because we aren't putting enough pressure on the opposition in the the final third. Attacking pressure forces desperate defending which results in high corner wins. He wasn't saying we should be winning corners to score more goals. He is of course totally correct and not sure how this point was missed? Why did the caller just labour on winning corners and scoring from corners? Why did some jumped up Herbert try and lecture Mick Mills on the basics of football? Embarrassing.

MM seemed to think we were poorish apart from the last 10 minutes or so and only deserved a point but he had earlier said we did and have been playing well ! Make of that what you will but I think he was just having a waffle to fill in time before KM came on . Yes all respect to MM for his superb playing career .

Though Mills was spot on.

Nathan (?) either was not listening to what MM said, or does not understand football.

For all the possession we had, we hardly tested their keeper in the first 75 minutes of the game. An indicator of our lack of chances on goal was us not having a corner until mid second half. Fair enough.

Somehow numpty boy confused this point with our track record of scoring from corners last season. MM was not saying we should aim to win more corners, simply that we need to threaten the Barnsley goal more often.

"Amazing for us".

What with captaining Ipswich Town to FA Cup and UEFA cup trophies.

Playing for the national side and being made captain there too.

Fair to say he probably knows a thing or two yes.

That wasn't what MM was saying, though.

What he did say was that we didn't earn any corners for the first 60 minutes (or something like that) and that showed we weren't putting their defence under enough pressure as corners result from the defence being under pressure. The caller misinterpreted this as MM saying we should be looking to earn more corners. The caller then said that was wrong because we don't threaten from them anyway.

Ultimately MM was right and the caller didn't get the point he was making.

That was the way I understood what heard of it all anyway. The caller was a little too abrupt in his disagreement for me. Needed to listen a little more carefully to what MM was actually saying.
