Ah, now I understand. I must have been too focused on channelling Margaret Rutherford.

I'm more cautious with that one since I made a bit of an idiot of myself a couple of years ago.

A friend's relative says "know what I mean" after almost every sentence and it's really weird after a while.

I asked the friend what that was all about and apparently the relative (brother) had a stroke a few years back and has been speaking like that ever since.

Sorry to be serious about a light-hearted thread, but it made me think of that.

Reach out and Curated on 21:42 - Sep 7 with 976 viewsSouthBucksBlue

Haven’t read the whole thread so these have probably been covered but I’ve always found the phrase ‘Reach Out’ particularly cringeworthy in place of contact (unless it’s uttered by a member of the Four Tops).

Curated used to mean looked after in the context of artwork or museum artefacts etc. and apparently is derived from ‘curing’ like bacon is cured. Now evidently Spotify playlists are curated and I recently got a marketing email from a travel company banging on about their itinerary curators!

Then there’s Journey, Experience amongst others…

Similarly 'You are joking me', joke always used to be a noun and never a verb. 'You are kidding me' conveys the feeling more effectively and more powerfully.

Somebody on here made the point that unlimited bankers' bonuses are fine but public sector pay increases are inflationary. Hopefully Labour will be repeating this ad nauseum.
