How was the minute's silence at Anfield last night? 07:33 - Sep 14 with 3251 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

Presumably they were absolute "scum."

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."

Personally, I feel the minute’s silence is always asking for trouble. Why not do a minute’s applause or simply just sing the National anthem to drown out those that don’t want to conform?

In many cases, especially at football, a minute's applause is more appropriate than a minute's silence. I am a republican, but even I think that a minute's silence to mark the Head of State's death was right.
When Princess Margaret dies in 2002, the football authorities decided a minute's silence was required (totally unnecessary IMO) and I remember someone shouting out loudly at PR "Vive la republique!".

Can I make clear I have an alibi. I was in Lagos and have the passport stamps to prove it.

Shame. I was going to send you a bouquet (or maybe a beret).

True story.

Mid 80s and after my O'Levels as a treat I got a ticket to the Prince's trust concert at Wembley Arena. It was the only time Boyie and Jagger performed "Dancing in the streets" live out of LiveAid. Think Simple Minds were my main draw but I digress.

Our future monarch, Prince Charles was introduced and a respectful hush fell as he walked to his seat. Just as he got there I stood up and shouted as loud as I could "Charlie, give us a wave, Charlie, Charlie give us a wave".

Unlike at Portman Rd, no one joined in, not one person, just complete silence and about 7,000 tuts / head shakes.

Charles did look rather out of touch when he turned up to open Live Aid wearing a pin stripe suit. Some of the performers were invited to meet Charles in his box & the late Freddie Mercury wasn't interested, preferring to hang out with his own friends backstage. He has gone up in my estimation, rather like those who refuse knighthoods.
