We're talking long ago and a different pedigree pf player, but wasn¨t David Jonson the first a striker of what you call the 'big lump' variety? As I say, we're talking a high calibre of 'lump' here, as Mariner was bought to replace him, and for Liverpool Johnson was often competing with Toshack for a place up front alongside Keegan. I'd have thought David Johnson 1 and David Johnson 2 were examples of the two different types you're talking about.
But it's a genuine question, - I was young, and I may be misremembering simply because he looked so imperious. |
I was lucky enough to watch Jonty in his Ipswich days. He was anything but a big lump, he was a very pacey, mobile striker who complimented Trevor Whymarks greater aerial threat brilliantly. He went on to play for Liverpool winning several trophies, and England. |  |
