I’ve always loved the original film and book which for those of you who haven’t seen or read before is regarded as one of the ..if not the best…anti war film/book…
the 2022 version just released on netflix however takes the story to another level…some has likened some of the scenes to a mash up of saving private ryan and 1917…it’s not though..it’s much more harrowing than that and some of the graphic scenes had me wincing and almost looking away…me and my partner will often comment during a film but we were both kinda watching in stunned silence…the scene in the bomb crater in particular being one instance…after a day on the lash at charlton I stopped watching with a half an hour to go and will finish watching later on..albeit with a tinge of sadness as those of you who do know the story will understand….
I have to admit I’m not a great watcher of mainstream cinema current releases but having watched this Ill be suprised if it doesn’t pick up some deserved “silverware” once the awards season comes around…. [Post edited 30 Oct 2022 6:18]

As it happens I watched this today myself. I think the battle scenes were very well done; obviously extremely violent and graphic, but I believe only to be accurate to the reality of what really happened, rather than just for the sake of it. |  |

Watched it Friday as been waiting for it to come out for weeks.
Very good film, strays slightly from the book and original 1930 film which is still superior to this in my opinion. Left out a lot of the training and character development at the beginning but as a film in its own right and not compared to the 1930 original is one of the best depictions of trench warfare I have seen and I am a massive war film fan especially WW1.
I had to leave the room and make a cuppa during the shell hole scene as was almost unbearable to watch but it is supposed to shock as is an anti war film.
I watched in German with subtitles which gave it more authenticity in my opinion. |  | | |
