If I can't go there they'll have to come here 18:35 - Oct 31 with 1086 viewsOldsmoker

Charlie the Third has just thrown a sh*t load of shade on the Tories.
He's going to hold an End-of-Cop26 reception at Buck Palace for all those dignitaries going to Cop27.
Will Sunak attend?
Of course he will - in his best grovelling manner possible.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Is Boris Johnson invited to the Palace do, or is he just going to Egypt for a scout around at money making opportunities ?

I think Boris might try and sell the Pyramids to some American tourist.
If anyone could it would be him.

Does anyone know why Sunak can stop him doing what he likes? Sunak is in his government, not the other way round.

If we went back to the Court of St James that might be the case but since the Civil War and the Glorious Revolution the idea has always been that the Monarch has no power over the affairs of Parliament, and rightfully so in my opinion.

Maybe so, but what has this got to do with the trivialities of politicking?

Because Charles III would be attending CoP27 as a Head of State and that would require the Monarchy and Parliament to be in accord. This does raise a further question of whether a Prime Minister who has been appointed by the labyrinthine workings of a single party can be a true representative of Parliament, perhaps the question should be put to the Commons ?

It was more of a rhetorical than a procedural question really, but it's only convention that requires the Monarchy and Parliament to be in accord, isn't it, given that we have no written constitution?

I would say, as I'm sure you and the vast majority would agree, that in the long history of the UK and indeed civilisation, there has never been an issue with even a fraction of the importance of agreeing immediate action to ameliorate the inevitable consequences of Global Heating.

On that basis, I would say that now is the time to smash that convention to fkn pieces!

Charles can do as he pleases.

But ignoring the elected head of our democracy would seriously risk p*ssing off the 165 people that voted for him.

Perhaps Charlie should be looking closer to home than COP.

Reinstating the green energy laws that the Queen used her privilege to opt out of would be a start…
