Absolutely - by far the better team in the 2nd half. Wales deserve nothing from this at all.

Absolute shambles of a performance from Wales. So many aimless balls and misplaced passes.

Out of interest is the England V USA gathering much interest over there? I’m guessing yes, as MLS average gate is around 18K - higher than ice hockey - so the sport must be quite popular now.

It is, yes, lots of texts from mates who normally have no interest in “soccer”. Off to my brother in laws later to watch the game, he and his kids are decorating the house in USA flags. Can’t wait to smash them 4-0!

I used to work with a few Americans - soccer seems to be more popular with a younger audience (a few years ago) who are now young adults and have carried on liking it.

From what I can gather baseball seems to be dropping in popularity amongst the young - but I could be wrong on this.

It really ought to be straightforward but I have a horrible feeling about it. Still, we have the ultimate carrot that a win secures progression which should be enough, providing Pickford doesn't have a Robert Green.

You are correct, baseball is waning in popularity. MLB are tinkering with the game to try and make it more watchable but the fact remains it’s an absurdly long season (162 games) meaning there’s no edge or real meaning to a huge number of games and, crucially, baseball is a slow game with lots of of not much happening.

That said, MLS has a long way to go to be seen as a major sport over here. Apple have just spent billions on the TV rights so that may give it a boost.

I know what you mean but as long we’re up for it we should have more than enough to win. I’d be more worried if we were playing Canada

100% - I suspect we might concede but if we match our performance against Iran, we could score double figures tonight.

Remember if win to act like a proper obnoxious condescending arse to your in-laws. It’s important that they learn about sportsmanship ‘soccer’ style.

Championship quality at best. And that’s being harsh on the Championship.

It was a collective s5it the bed performance. Slow, ragged, unable to string two passes together. Which probably means they’ll all have the games of their lives v England

Just to add to Illy’s more informed response, watching the NFL Thanksgiving games on Gamepass last night which carries the American ads there were noticeably a lot of World Cup themed ads (including a very long one with Beckham and Peyton Manning arguing about whether it’s football and soccer), and several for tonight’s game. Which obviously wouldn’t be the case if there wasn’t much interest in it

Similarly, one of the main college football writers on the Athletic was debating whether tonight or tomorrows Ohio State - Michigan game (probably the biggest of the season in what is a huge sport in the US) would get more viewers. Again regardless of whether it does the fact it is even a question is telling

In our last world cup meeting (2010) was a 1-1 draw.

But then our historic results against them are good.

You make a good point; more and more soccer is creeping into the mainstream here. Admittedly some of it is driven by who has the TV rights. Fox is showing the World Cup here hence why Fox channels are promoting it during NFL coverage. Similar has happened on NBC’s flagship Sunday Night Football show where during breaks in play they’ll mention Liverpool v Man Utd coming up tomorrow. (NBC has the premier league rights). But to your point; the very fact Soccer is even mentioned alongside American staples such as NFL tells the story.
