And to clarify - asking you to justify how you've leapt from criminal convictions of sex offenders to trans people and gender recognition as a 'related' article isn't looking for a fight. Seems a reasonable question. [Post edited 3 Dec 2022 14:29]

Are you okay? You appear to have gone in off the deep end somewhat at a perfectly innocuous aside.

I agree that it was handled very well, it would be quite easy to lose your rag but the lad handled it superbly.

Have you read it? It's about staff who check applicants not just for gender identity but for their suitability for jobs generally (they are in HR); and was addressed to someone well known for their interest in legal issues, justice, and care + fair play to all. The tweet attached to it originally explored what that might mean re people who could potentially escape being named on the sex offenders register by changing their name. Hello Ryorry, I'm saying this respectfully and not to score points... Just as Glasgow has educated many of us about tropes and symbolism deliberately used to malign Jewish people, so there are certain tropes which have been used to malign members of the LGBTQ+ community. Inferring a parallel between sexual orientation or gender reassignment and paedophilia is one of those tropes. Your link is all about the complexities of obliging people to reveal sensitive personal and confidential medical information in job applications if they are members of the Trans+ community. You have linked it in a discussion about DBS checking on a convicted paedophile. It would be good if you could state that that wasn't your intention and remove the link. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

"Inferring a parallel between sexual orientation or gender reassignment and paedophilia is one of those tropes." I'm sorry if you read it that way. Of course it bloody well wasn't my intention, that's why I didn't post the tweet it had been attached to - it wasn't relavent to the thread. BL posted a link which "(DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions each year by processing and issuing DBS checks." The thread is about a man who having been checked by their staff still slipped through the net. I posted a related link from the Law Society I thought he might be interested in, relating to a different act which they reported "could criminalise innocent staff". That it refers to the Gender Recognition Act is purely coincidental, it could have referred to anything else under the sun - the specific topic of the act was not my point - the pressure HR staff are put under, and their fallibility when carrying out the checks, was and is. I'm amazed that some people can't actually see that.

I didn't have a problem with what you posted, and certainly didn't interpret in the way some others have done.

Totally up to you. In the interests of board harmony I was simply trying to demonstrate how the link you gave could be interpreted.

Didn't really get an answer to this at the time...but makes a little more sense after today. Anyway...did anyone hear anything about Phoenix after this? Someone ITK at that side told me they had a few negative reviews online but that they'd manage to successfully get them removed as fake reviews. Is a bit of a concern that all of the other family functions they have will go on regardless - unless they seriously improve/rectify these issue.

It's pretty shocking - if entirely unsurprising - that they have managed to deflect negative comments in this way. I suppose those who have such concerns could always report them to the relevant regulatory/certificating bodies...
