Jay Matete - UPDATE: looks like off to plymouth 08:55 - Dec 31 with 9414 viewsNutkins_Return

Really think we should look to sign the lad. Hasn't started for Sunderland this season though from what I've heard has always looked good coming on. They have Michut coming back from injury and could strengthen.

He's 21, we were interested before and a move looks required for him to kick on. They would probably sanction a loan but a perm would be better.

Here he is.

Next week is a new week, be happy, enjoy life. There’s more to it than Ipswich transfer news.

He must be a ray of sunshine to sit next to at games, moaning at every opportunity no doubt

That’s Morsy nailed on getting booked v Plymouth. They didn’t get along from memory!

Matete ran him very close that day, and was very impressive. Morsy cheered in his face at the final whistle if I recall correctly.

Sam's the experienced head though. It could just as easily go the other way!

Great signing for Plymouth, FWIW. Probably not the kind of deal we're looking at unless there was an option to buy.

Correct me if I’m wrong but
Sam Cosgrove
Jay Matete
Finn Azaz
Bali Mumba
Nigel Lonwijk

That’s 5, you can only have 5 in a match day squad.

Yes but the rules are you can have eight loanees

Apparently we still have two more to be done if the deals can be done probably permenant signings

Not the window we were expecting I can assure you

You have strengthened from an already-strong position. Must be buzzing.

I will be delighted to finish second to you (although would clearly prefer to finish 1st with Plymouth 2nd).

EFL teams are permitted 5 loan players in their match day squad (you can sign as many as you like, but not a lot of point in doing so!)

You'd have to be a pretty weird club to send a player out on loan to another with five loan players already wouldn't you 😅 or have next to no interest in the player you're loaning out

Playing devils advocate here, they’ve been REALLY active this window. That’s a lot of new players to incorporate- “time to gel etc”…

Patience is a virtue.

Very true and it looks as though we may be looking at a slightly better class of player ? and maybe permanent instead of just loans ? Well lets hope that is the case .

“it looks as though we may be looking at a slightly better class of player ”

Fingers crossed. I don’t see the excitement for these Argyle signings, Matete is fairly decent, but a rookie who’s played a handful of games at Cheltenham, and a striker who’s score 17 goals in the New Zealand league don’t fill me with envy!

Just to add- none of this of course takes away the cracking season they’ve had, credit to them.

Disagree I think they are doing a class job with their recruitment. The new Zealand lad is talented and they have been scouting him for some time. It's not a guaranteed success but don't be surprised for him to be a very astute signing. Matete is a top quality L1 midfield with potential for higher division. The other midfielder was another they have been tracking and tried to sign but went to a champ club. The full back has been one of the outstanding players in L2. And they already have Muba for hat role (fingers crossed he goes).

We have more spending power and I'm hopeful our window will be even better but Plymouth continue to be impressive on and off the pitch.

Would have loved Matete (but if we were taking him would want perm). I'm glad at least someone like him hasn't gone to Wednesday.
